Liberals attack Whole Foods
American Thinker ^ | August 21, 2009 | Robin of Berkeley

As a leftist up until last year, I know what liberals are good at:  emotion and righteous indignation.  And they're experts at channeling that fury into concrete action.  So Moveon.org and other far left groups are e mailing and twittering and Facebooking like crazy to mobilize the troops into doing whatever they dictate.

Their tactics can be so cruel and chilling, that those of us with a conscience can be left hanging in the dust.  Meanwhile, a la Saul Alinsky, the Left isolates, demonizes and destroys their "enemies," that is anyone who disagrees with them.

When a person or company is the next target for Liberal Fascism, my plan is to contact the business and offer unconditional support and encourage my new friends to do ths same. I already did this when I  read of a boycott of Israeli products at Trader Joe's. I marched in  there, purchased some "Israeli Cous Cous" (pretty good, actually), and told the store manager why I was buying it.

Case in point:  The current boycott of Whole Foods because John Mackey, the CEO, has his own opinions about health care and expressed these in the Wall Street Journal.

The result: a nation wide, well publicized campaign of nasty phone calls and e mails to local stores.  Ironically, if you've ever been in a Whole Foods, you know that 99.9% of the employees are mega Obama fans.  And when Obama was campaigning in Iowa, didn't he wax rhapsodic about the arugula there?  (He's such a man of the people.)

When a person or company is the next target for Liberal Fascism, I suggest that we get organized ourselves.  Contact the business and offer unconditional support.  This is a win win for several reasons.

First, it shows the company that there are many people who agree with them.  I called my local Whole Foods and spoke to the manager and said, "I am calling to express my complete support for Whole Foods.  I am appalled at what the Left is doing by demonizing anyone who disagrees with them.  I've always been a liberal but they are going too far.  I will shop at Whole Foods even more and encourage all my friends to do the same."

There were several seconds of silence.  I actually thought we had gotten disconnected.  Finally, the manager spoke in a stunned voice, "I thought when you started that you'd be another person attacking me.  I am so grateful for your support."

Given that she was in a vulnerable place (being yelled at all week), I spent a couple of minutes doing some consciousness raising.  "I'm in my 50's and liberalism has changed so much since I was young.  It used to be about free speech and now it's about controlling speech."

I was pleased when she agreed.

I didn't say anything negative about Obama which might have made her defensive.  I also chose not to identify myself as a conservative (because I was concerned about being immediately discredited as someone who doesn't shop there anyway -- although my credit card bills tell a different tale).

There's that old joke:  The definition of a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged.  (Unfortunately, I can relate to that one.)  A new version:  The definition of a conservative is a liberal who's been Alinsky-busted.

Given that the Left eats their own, that offers the possibility of many more conservatives!

If you want to support Whole Foods, here are some ideas.

1.  Contact your local store manager and express your support.  If you're shopping there, let the Obama lovers who work there know you are concerned with extreme far Left tactics.

2.  E mail Whole Foods at wholefoods.com.

3.  John Mackey's e mail address is: john.mackey@wholefoods.com

4.  Leave a message at corporate headquarters:  512 477 5566.

5.  Fax them at 512 482 7000.

Lastly, the other great reason for doing things like this is that it feels good!  By expressing my opinion, I felt like I was doing something, and was a great antidote for powerlessness.

And anyway I really do love the salad bar there (not arugula though).

9. Reindustrialization

Only if that re-industrialization includes Americans realizing that the genie is out of the bottle and we live in a global economy now, and they can't demand wages and benefits that exceed those of competitors, unless they provide more than those competitors. And Americans have to realize that when competitors are getting advanced degrees in science and math while Americans prefer a quickie degree and American Idol, they can't expect they will provide a more attractive product to the global market.

Ergo, Americans had better accept the idea of a much lower standard of living unless they want to change their behavior and attitude.

Wouldn’t it be hilarious if the CEO switched parties over this?!

Thanks for posting that... I shop their too. Their vitamins are very affordable and with a great selection. I also love the high quality food they sell. I have a pro life bumper sticker on my car and I’m sure I get the dirty looks in the parking lot. Oh well.

Have to love it when Liberals attack their own!
++++++++++++

And just for speaking their mind! Wow, only group speak, brain dead need apply for today’s ‘progressive’ movement. What a JOKE and what fools they really act and sound like.

MoveOn people are so despicable. I wonder what they think they’re going to get out of this.
++++++++++++++++

If this fails or succeeds, they’ve again painted themselves into the corner of being against free speech (as with the Town Halls), and again in a VERY PUBLIC and highly scrutinized fashion.

Can there be a dumber tactic?

This man gave 8 alternative steps to Obamacare. Is such an illegal conversation among the Obama cult?

Just out of curiosity, I took at look at Mackey’s political contributions to see where his Whole Food dollars are going....

http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?st=TX&last=Mackey&first=john

He donated to Libertarian Harry Brown’s campaign in 1996, 1999, and 2000. He dontated $4,000 to the Libertarian Party in 2000. Otherwise there is not a lot of info and no contributions noted after 2000.

What it means is that the nationalization of health care is more important to them than everything else combined. “By whatever means necessary” is their terminology.
+++++++++++++++

imho - they are going to lose the government (Praise God!) and even the ‘cool’ quotient of those that voted for Obama and opposed Bush. It is getting downright embarassing, imho, to actually publicly support this government health care debacle, to support what bammy and the other socialists in Congress are now saying is their Waterloo.

I work with a number of Obamaheads - and let me tell you, none of them are talking about Obama currently, or wearing their Obama t-shirts and some of them, to me personally, are saying that they think he’s an idiot. So quickly, the younger set is going to be ‘embarassed’ to support such a ‘loser’ and that’s how it goes with them (that will work to our favor now, but perhaps quickly against us in the not too distant future.) So our effort with the youth is to educate them on the efficacy of Conservative principles - and do so with a ‘cool’-ness that they respect. Some of our more well spoken conservatives - Hannity, Beck, to some degree Sarah Palin, etc., do that pretty well.

This battle has become, due to hard work and fearlessness (LEARN from this RNC and Pubbie leaders), a WIN WIN for this nation.

Mackey is far from being one of their own. He is a Libertarian, who happens to own a business that Liberals are attracted to. And he has made a fortune at it. They should of boycotted him long ago for being a capitalist.
++++++++++++++

They should boycott this nation, and leave us, as we’re a capatilist nation, with capitalist ROOTS through and through!! That would be GREAT! :)

Very good. I love deceit.
+++++++++++++++

Maybe you're a thespian, but I don't agree with the deceit part. I'm tired of deceit.

You know, I could understand boycotting a business for a good cause, but come on - liberals boycotting a liberal business for saying something that is against Obama Care...please...
++++++++++++

And not just against Obamacare, but with 8, EIGHT, alternative steps...

You’re not not allowed to think and be a progressive any more...

Good to know!

Other than the clientele, there is nothing liberal about Whole Foods. Mackey is a libertarian, philosophically and he runs the company accordingly. I have been happy to shop there and will continue to. It’s great, high quality food and a wide variety of it.

The store I go to is hardly a bastion for liberals, mostly Republican territory. I've been shopping there for 15 yrs and will continue to do so. I also sent an email to John Mackey expressing my support.
