McCain: Kennedy 'always kept his word'

Senator John McCain of Arizona, the Republican presidential nominee last year, today praised Senator Edward M. Kennedy's willingness to work with Republicans on issues facing the country.

"Ted Kennedy had this unique way of doing hand-to-hand combat on the floor of the Senate," McCain said on CNN. "And as soon as we stopped our speechmaking, he'd come over and put his arm around you and make everybody appreciate that we had our differences, politically, but personally we could be friends and work together as colleagues and friends for the good of the country."

"Probably the most overrated aspect of the United States Senate is that people keep their word," added McCain, who worked with Kennedy on immigration overhaul, education, and other issues. "Ted Kennedy always kept his word. He would keep his word to the point where he would vote against his positions in order to preserve a carefully crafted compromise."

McCain said that Kennedy's negotiating skill has been sorely missing on a health care overhaul, which has become a deeply divisive partisan issue.

May 14, 1983 document from the KGB archives reveals that Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) reached out to the General Secretary of the Soviet Union’s Communist Party, Yuri Andropov, to propose a kind of public relations strategy to counter President Reagan’s defense policy initiatives toward the Soviet Union, policies that Kennedy felt were too aggressive.

This fool was our presidential nominee? Sometimes I think it's a good thing that Mr. Obama was "elected" last year. That way we can see Marxism for what it really is, instead of watered down a bit, as McCain would've done it!

I will never forget when Kennedy and the RATS suckered BUSH 1 into signing ADA. It was a horrible bill that lead to a decade of reckless lawsuits as predicted at the time by common sense people. But GHW Bush “reached out” in the spirit of biparitanship and signed ADA. He even invited a slew or rats to a Rose Garden ceremony included Ted Kennedy. In the spirit of bipartisanship, the fink Kennedy held a mini press conference on the White House lawn trashing President Bush for not supporting people with disabilities. What an a$$.
