Senator John McCain of Arizona, the Republican presidential nominee last year, today praised Senator Edward M. Kennedy's willingness to work with Republicans on issues facing the country.
"Ted Kennedy had this unique way of doing hand-to-hand combat on the floor of the Senate," McCain said on CNN. "And as soon as we stopped our speechmaking, he'd come over and put his arm around you and make everybody appreciate that we had our differences, politically, but personally we could be friends and work together as colleagues and friends for the good of the country."
"Probably the most overrated aspect of the United States Senate is that people keep their word," added McCain, who worked with Kennedy on immigration overhaul, education, and other issues. "Ted Kennedy always kept his word. He would keep his word to the point where he would vote against his positions in order to preserve a carefully crafted compromise."
McCain said that Kennedy's negotiating skill has been sorely missing on a health care overhaul, which has become a deeply divisive partisan issue.

McCain lost....why do we have to keep hearing his stupid comments - back to ***kissing the Democrats. Doesn’t he realize he is just a useful idiot?
Kennedy was a vile, untrustworthy pig who routinely violated his oath of office and who probably did more to destroy America than any other single person in the last 100 years.
And his pal John McCain is a hapless buffoon who has squandered his political career playing the fool for liberals.

Bush was just as bad as McCain when it came to worshipping Kennedys. I have to think Ted would go back to his Scotch & waitress & just laugh at Republicans. They made it too easy.
Did Ted make a backroom deal with Dubya such as "I'll sign off on this bill, as long as you don't mind me calling a press conference and stabbing you in the back tomorrow, okay?" Not likely.
Senate Oath of Office:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
So, Teddy was a Socialist who sheltered his own money from taxation, and was in continuous violation of his oath. It meant nothing to him.
Even if you're a flaming lib, do you really think it's wise to trust someone when you know their word is worthless?
Baaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfffffffffffff !
Thank you for posting. Teddy’s word was worthless.
"So, ah, Mary Jo. I you just go for a little ride in my cah, and we, ah. drive off a bridge, ah, I, ah, promise not to rescue you. Ha, ha, ha. But don't, ah, worry about that. I drive betta when I am, ah, totally drunk."
