In a column a few weeks ago, I wrote about "smallsourcing" and how U.S. workers are competing for jobs that small companies haven't chosen to outsource. Some of these jobs are in the very areas where the doomsayers said the U.S. had no chance of competing, such as information technology, Web development, and graphic design.
That U.S. workers have been competitive in these fields underscores my belief that the nation's workforce can be more competitive in other fields than is broadly understood.

Of course Americans can complete. They just have to be willing to work for lower levels of compensation.
FREE people can and will be competitive in any and all professions.
Once we remove ourselves from the influence of the marxists in the fedgov, govschool and govmedia and actually practice REAL freedom of thought, action and outcome we will see a return of progress in the professions and industries that have smothered and died under socialism and trade unions.
I’ve had these high paying call center jobs.
Inevitably the management will hire less experienced, and dumber people for less. When the shit hits the fan, they’ll hire middle management to analyze the situation, and find that they have to hire a whole bunch more stupids, which will take more management, and more HR, and more analysts. Of course the top people will have to get raises because they are managing so many more people.
Meanwhile the original people who could actually do the job will not get promotions because they are the only ones who actually know the job. But what they do get is pressure and blame. They are told they are now “team leaders” which doesn’t get them a raise, and that they are responsible for teaching the morons that have been hired by idiot HR and management idiots who got where they are by not being any good at taking calls.
Eventually the company will get bought by another company, and all the high salaries will be cut. Next the division is shut down because no one knows why they are there.
Bitter, me?
Interesting. A call center where the employees actually have to know something. It might catch on!
Beautiful narrative! Well done. Must have been fun.
Something does not compute in this story.
Per Vivek Wadhwa:
“Consider iQor, a call center and business process outsourcing company based in Columbus, Ohio, that’s increased revenues at a 40% clip for the past four years. It’s done this primarily by expanding its U.S. operations. IQor also gives its U.S. employees universal health insurance, and pays salaries and bonuses that are nearly 50% above industry norms. “
But per Business Week’s iQor Company Overview, during second half of 2008, iQor laid off US workers in NC, and hired workers in the Phillipines:

Don’t tell me the article is a puff piece based on one viewpoint, that of management. I did notice that they bragged about their 45% turnover rate.
