Personally I'm glad that Ted Kennedy is finally dead. I hope the end was extremely painful. You know, maybe as painful as being left in a small confined space until the oxygen is depleted. You know, that kind of painful.
And I most sincerely hope that Mary Jo greeted him at the Pearly Gates when the drunken, abusive, murdering piece of crap got there and the Good Lord let her push the "Down" button on the express elevator to Hell.
Rot in a lake of Fire, Ted Kennedy.

Shepard Smith is a the prototypical moron-anchorman. From what I’ve seen, he doesn’t bother to investigate anything more deeply that what is on the teleprompter. My $$ says that he will be the one chosen to interview Obama when The ONE finally grants an interview to Fox News. The latter will no doubt happen when his approval rating dips below 40%.

The Roman Catholic Church has lost any vestiges of honesty and deserved respect during the last six months, culminating with the Edward Kennedy funeral charade today.
When nominal Catholics ran for political office promoting blatant Pro-choice positions; and the most of the Church administration stood aside and made no comment, even in their diocesan newspapers, any moral ground held was lost. Watching the Church, represented by the Archbishop of Boston and Washington, lending their authoritative presence to the Kennedy charade today has totally sundered any respect I have had for the Church. I am knowledgeable and educated in Church history and ethics having attended a Jesuit College for four years and having believed and assented to the ethics and morals I was exposed to. No respect, no longer. I now can understand the Jewish complaints against Pope Pius XII. I can see that while he may not have supported Hitler, he did not denounce him openly; just like the Archbishops of Boston and Washington have not denounced Kennedy and the pro abortionists from the pulpits. Accommodation with Fascists and murderers, when there is freedom to denounce it, is a sin, in and of itself.

Your post? Sheer poetry. Got me a bit misty. One of those “I wish I’d written that” kind of posts. All I can do is nod my head in agreement and appreciation.

I didn't know about Rousseau, but from the many Lib people I have known, or known about, through the years, I can see that personal apathy you describe. Let your own children do without but “save the world”. I think the Kennedy family goes back to Joe, Sr. (the sins of the fathers visited upon the sons to the second and third generations). Joe and his family first made their fortune doing things that were against the law (bootlegging). That attitude of being above the law permeated through to his sons, his grandsons and who knows how far.
I, too, think Ted was trying to prove his worth as a human being. In a post a few days ago, someone was quoted as saying Ted Kennedy had deep conflicts with his faith and his political stances. His conflict was that he knew his church severely disapproved of some laws he promoted, yet he couldn't see ever departing from the uber-Liberal way. He would risk his political life by standing up for the unborn, for example, and he could not see a way of life outside politics and the power it gave him. Was it a Faustian bargain? Maybe. But like I said, it's between him and God now. No one can change the past.

Ted said it was for the women who break their backs making beds! You mean it was Ted Kennedy that first started the "maid tip" custom. Now see, I would never have known that!(Sarc)
Working as a waitress while in college, it usually was the rich ones who left the least tips. Guess that's how they stay rich!

Patrick Kennedy, in his eulogy, told a story about Teddy leaving some money on the sink in their hotel room. When Patrick told his dad that he left money there Ted said it was for the women who break their backs making beds! Wow, what a saint that Ted was! We all must canonize Teddy for leaving a tip. What a great human being he was! Wow!Having been in the hotel biz for many years I can almost assure you that he didn't give the maids diddly squat. Most so called big folks stiff hotel workers. Given his credentials...that was a given!

Dominic has a way with words. He places Ted’s conflicting dual personas in private and public life succinctly in the proper perspective.
It is revolting indeed to witness all the glorious testamonials eulogizing this ambiguous tyrant.
I find comfort in knowing that where Ted travels now, all the Mary Jo’s of the world he woefully and willfully harmed, are anxiously awaiting his arrival. May they have the final say in his final judgment. May justice finally be done. Since where he travels now, money and power cannot redeem nor save him. The would be Emporer is finally naked and on his own.

I have worked over the years for people in all economic positions. The rich are least likely to pay and most likely to quibble about the fees.

You are quite correct. We used to go out to dinner with a couple (no longer friends) who were quite well off, we used to always squabble over the tip. My husband and I, who are comfortable (not rich by any means), believe in tipping a minimum of 20%, unless the server is really, really awful. The wealthy couple would only want to leave 10%, even if service was stellar. The guy used to say a waiter would have to kiss his a$$ before he'd give 20% (sometimes the difference was only a few bucks!). We started getting separate checks in short order.
Also, he would find anything wrong he could possibly find with the meal just in hopes that the manager would comp something. Biggest cheapskates I have ever known!
On the other hand, there are many, many wealthy people who give to charities without looking for praise or monuments. God bless them!
