Instead, he led the conservative, pro-business LDP to a historic defeat in a general election yesterday.

Aso said he took responsibility for the loss after media projections showed the LDP had shed two-thirds of its seats in the lower house election, adding the party should pick a successor soon.

After Mr Aso became the party's fourth leader in four years last September

How liberal is the party which just won? They may have jumped from the frying pan into the fire.

"Aso leads party to crushing defeat"

Depending on the spelling, this headline could apply to losers everywhere.

What’s significant about this to us is that they say they will not buy US debt and or want it denominated in Yen, not dollars.

Despite the confusing names of the major Japanese parties, the Liberal-Democratic Party which lost is the Japanese equivalent of Republicans and the Democratic Party that won is the Japanese equivalent of the Democratic Party in the US.

I was reading about the just-happened election last night at a Knoxville News site, where I was reading about the jury verdict in the horrific black on white crime case that a jury rendered last week. The paper noted that the party which won was running on making the economy “less U.S.-centric.”

WRONG!
The Liberal-Democratic Party (who lost) is pro-capitalism and pro-free markets. It is the party of big business in Japan.
“Liberal” in their title refers to liberal economic policies as in free markets and free enterprise as opposed to planned economies.

“They may have jumped from the frying pan into the fire.”

Oh, heck yes. That pack of leftards extends all the way over to Japan’s communist party.

Sounds like the DJP is intent on increasing Japan's already dangerously large public debt, so it's a given. The next few years are going to be a political roller coaster ride for both of our countries as the fiscal poop hits the fan. One can hope the turnover in Japanese politics doesn't end here, as the DJP sounds like a turn for the worse for them overall.
