RICHMOND, Va. - Bob McDonnell's 20-year-old conservative manifesto advocating government protections for heterosexual, two-parent traditional families not available to those living "alternative lifestyles" presents his gubernatorial campaign its first crisis.
McDonnell has not commented on the 1989 graduate thesis since it was first reported in Sunday's Washington Post. His research paper targets abortion, feminism, welfare, "cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators" as enemies of traditional families.
With no nomination challenge and no distractions, his Republican campaign has stayed on script and rolled smoothly along until now.
Democrat Creigh Deeds' campaign, trailing McDonnell in the most recent statewide polling, found new life in the report. In a news teleconference Monday, Deeds' aides called it no mere academic exercise but a grown man's blueprint for governing.

Is it? I hope so. Because it would be an issue if he were up here in the Northeast, Republican or not.
I agree... this doesn’t seem to be a problem at all!
Am eagerly awaiting the WaPo reports on the Obamaloon thesis (that is, if the loon ever wrote anything worth reading).
Oh, he was "just a student?"
"So was McDonell". Case closed.
Oh, and don’t push those comic-book level “books” supposedly written by the loon.
His best response would be NOT to run around the state apologizing to every moving thing between now and November, a la George Allen.
This is a total non-story. Deeds has carved out a career as a so-called conservative Democrat, who has thrown all his previous beliefs out the window for the support of the national party. Deeds campaign is behind in the polls by double digits in most surveys and is desperate to rally the left-wing base of his party.
so McDonnell’s thesis comes to light but we cannot get our hands on Michelle Obama’s thesis.
Occidental College records -- Not released; Columbia University records -- Not released; Columbia University thesis -- Not released; Harvard College records -- Not released; Harvard Law Review articles -- None (perhaps 1, unsigned, and he was the editor). Harvard Law School records -- Not released.
This is a “crisis” ... for the LEFT!
Tell McDonnell not to apologize.
Tell McDonnell to RUN INTO IT!
Tell McDonnell to quote Dr. Ezekiel (Mengele) Emanuel tit for tat.
He should also keep talking jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs ...........
Also, he should immediately run tv and radio ads featuring Sheila Johnson talking about the Bob McDonnell she knows and not the one Deeds, the Wash Po and Daily Kos “know.”
This is only a crisis if McDonnell allows it to become one. If that is what he believes and what he’s running on so be it. If he’s trying to attract genuine conservatives this long held belief will work just fine for him.
Only the left could think this would be a problem. It’s actually neat the demrats are bringing this to everyone’s attention.
“His research paper targets abortion, feminism, welfare, “cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators” as enemies of traditional families.”
And...
Colonel, USAFR
Will the same fools that turned out George Allen over the word “macca” destroy themselves again?
Deeds' aides called it no mere academic exercise but a grown man's blueprint for governing.
Is Deeds secretly working for McDonnell?

This could only appear to be a crisis in the eyes of one entrenched in Leftist perspectives.
The really dangerous part is where he wrote that politicians should lie about their conservative views because voters won’t accept them.
