Private fortune, public cash
Milwaukee Journa -Sentinel ^ | 9-31-2009 | Raquel Rutledge

A Jaguar convertible sits in the driveway of Latasha Jackson's million-dollar mansion in Menomonee Falls. Built on a hill with a sprawling back deck overlooking a pond, the 7,600-square-foot home features an indoor swimming pool and indoor basketball court.

Jackson is not an Olympic swimmer, a professional basketball player or a celebrity of any sort. She is a day care provider in the city of Milwaukee.

She built her fortune with taxpayer funding from the Wisconsin Shares program.

And although documents show regulators had many reasons to believe the 32-year-old mother of three was billing the state for kids not in her care, providing false information and otherwise defrauding the system for more than a decade, they continued to pay her.

If you need yet another reason to understand how inefficient and corrupt government-subidized do-gooder programs are, chew on this one.

The only thing that compounded faster than her ripoff profits were the mistakes and incompetence of the Wisconsin state agencies that were supposed to be providing oversight. And stay tuned, once the investigators get past her initial wall of denial, I'm sure we're going to see the race card being played here...

These so-called under-privileged minorities sure know how to milk the system, don’t they? If Abshire is white, then it’s no wonder he never pursued any of the many citations against this woman.

defrauding the system for more than a decade

Y'all racists just tryin to oppress an up and coming community organizer, and future demokrat party leader, because she be a strong black womyn. No reason why she can't be the next John Conyers or Charlie Rangel, except for that little matter of her impending business with the Wisconsin Womyns Correctional Center.

From the article: “All told, Jackson has received nearly $3 million in taxpayer-financed child-care funding since she got in the day care business in 1999.”

“Reparations” of ~$25,000 per month. ($3M / 120 months or
10 years). Must of had lots of slaves in her ancestry.

Compared to the financial crowd currently summering in the Hamptons, who did it all 100 fold and perfectly legal, she’s a piker.

She should run for public office. If they can gerrymander her district, she’d be set for life with her constituents figuring she’s “just stickin it to the man”.

What an enterprising young lady.

I was also impressed by her boyfriend who makes $80,000 a year driving a daycare van. That's about twice what my brother makes for driving a semi.

Most likely.

Some of the large scams start small and just build because people get away with it.

I have heard employees express the rationale - well, I’m not making much, or “they” owe me, and I’m just getting what is due me.

Along with greed and incompetence in any government funded programs, including most universities as well as federal and state agencies there is also a lack of competent oversight and subsequent penalties for wrong doing.

Sounds like most of these government workers were claiming they were only doing their jobs aka “only following the orders”. In other words fraud oversight was not in their purview.

Would have been cheaper to have come through on that "40 acres and a mule" deal, huh? Absolutely amazing - can hardly wait to see the scathing J-S editorial on this but I won't be holding my breath.

But, but, - that van is full of future black liberation theology students, of Obamunism believers!

Think of the high value of that van’s cargo! ! !
