WASHINGTON — The prospect that U.S. Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal may ask for as many as 45,000 additional American troops in Afghanistan is fueling growing tension within President Barack Obama's administration over the U.S. commitment to the war there.

On Monday, McChrystal sent his assessment of the situation in Afghanistan to the Pentagon , the U.S. Central Command, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and NATO . Although the assessment didn't include any request for more troops, senior military officials said they expect McChrystal later in September to seek between 21,000 and 45,000 more troops. There currently are 62,000 American troops in Afghanistan .

On Monday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that the Obama administration inherited an under-resourced war in Afghanistan , but he stopped short of promising more troops.

Bush's fault....

Underesourced because many of the NATO troops are not allowed by their governments to fight.

This is not good. Why can’t these idiots provide the warriors with sufficient resources to ensure victory?

the basturds (deliberate spelling) are going to Vietnam this - they are already aiding and abetting the enemy= and pulling air cover from our troops = don't want to hurt any of the tallies, you know.

Aug was the deadliest month of the war.

May those in DC all rot it hell.

So says an old granny

Either give them the troops and cover they need and let them fight this - or get them all t'hell home RIGHT NOW - don't drag this out and non-fight it like they - the dems - always do.

We need to clean house in DC - both sides of the isle. And DO NOT elect any more lawyers...

Think about it. Almost all of 'em are lawyers. They run the country. What are they taught to do, as lawyers?

lie, obfuscate, parse ; the truth be damned.

And TERM LIMITS - no more Kings who rule with an iron hand because they've been there decade after decade.

CLEAN HOUSE - motto for 2010.

Underresourced because our senators and congress men along with Pelosi would not fund enough. Then Senators Obama and Biden included! Kennedy too.

Obama will soon hate the ending of TV shows like the Lehrer Report or This Week on ABC where they show the names of the honored dead.

Then he’ll pull out.

Hey, Barack Hussein Obama. No guts, no glory. Your girls will be old enough in a few years to serve this country in a war zone. Will you be grown up enough to accept that?

Well, Bush had his hands full in Iraq, and in Afghanistan he was following that multilateralism that Kerry urged on him and which has prove so successful /sarc.

I am worried about his commitment to the USA. It appears he hates the country and has set out to destroy it. Can he be stopped? As he is supported by a Democrat Congress led by the Party's anti-American faction, it will be difficult.
