Former President Barack Obama and his family are apparently keeping up their tradition of enjoying summer days on Martha’s Vineyard. According to the Martha’s Vineyard Times, the former first family is returning to the island this weekend and will stay in the town of Chilmark. Ann Crook, general manager of the Martha’s Vineyard Airport, told the newspaper of the Obamas’ visit and said it will not necessitate restrictions on airspace, as was the case when the 44th president was in office.

On Thursday, the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation named Barack Obama the 2017 “Profile in Courage” award honoree, and no one in the major media caught the irony of it. According to the foundation, the award is given to those “whose actions demonstrate the qualities of politically courageous leadership in the spirit of ‘Profiles in Courage,’ President Kennedy’s 1957 Pulitzer prize-winning book.” The reader should forget for a minute about Obama’s alleged courage and focus instead on the phrase, “President Kennedy’s 1957 Pulitzer prize-winning book.” This phrase would carry a little more weight, and the award would make a little...

It was one of the more emotional moments of President Obama’s farewell address. His eyes swelling with tears, he spoke of his wife, “Michelle LaVaughn Robinson of the South Side,” and then, of his pride in their two daughters, Malia and Sasha. “Under the strangest of circumstances you have become two amazing young women,” Obama said. “You are smart and you are beautiful. But more importantly, you are kind and you are thoughtful and you are full of passion.” “And,” he added, pausing for applause, “you wore the burden of years in the spotlight so easily. Of all that I...

There was something intriguing about Barack and Michelle Obama that went beyond their historic rise to power. It was, in part, their manner of being, their aesthetic and the nonverbal ways in which they communicated — with the public and with each other. Their physical language and style spoke intimately to African Americans, but they also broadly reflected the contemporary culture.

Throughout her time as First Lady, and even when her husband was first campaigning back in 2007, Obama has been subjected to countless racist remarks and unforgivable levels of disrespect. . . 3. The Obamas are truly the greatest couple of all time . . During her interview, she discussed how proud she is that so many young women got to see "somebody educated, strong [and] outspoken ... on a regular basis" during her time as First Lady. . . she still can't wrap her head around the leaked audio tape between Trump and Billy Bush....“You can’t just stand before...

I’m glad someone as distinguished as former U.N Ambassador John Bolton said it first and not me. On Fox News Sunday, he said he doesn’t trust Barack Obama’s heavily politicized intelligence agencies to make a clear, objective conclusion that the Russians hacked the Democratic National Committee and released tens of thousands of emails to WikiLeaks to help Donald Trump defeat Hillary Clinton for the presidency last month. “It is not at all clear to me, just viewing this from the outside, that this hacking into the DNC and the RNC was not a false flag operation,” he said. “We just...

Michelle Obama kicked off her family's final Christmas season at the White House on Friday by receiving a 19-foot Balsam-Veitch fir from Wisconsin as the official White House Christmas tree. Joined by two young nephews instead of her teenage daughters, the first lady said she's ready and excited for the holiday. . . . Mrs. Obama explained that the appearance by her nephews "is what happens when you get teenagers," referring to 18-year-old Malia and 15-year-old Sasha, the daughters who in past years have joined her for the tradition of receiving the Christmas tree on the morning after Thanksgiving. The dress code policy at the White House is simple: Whatever Michelle Obama says goes. Speaking to Footwear News on Friday at Variety’s Power of Women ceremony in Los Angeles, Spanx founder Sara Blakely recalled walking around the White House without any shoes on after the first lady gave her the green light to relieve her aching feet. . . . ...by the time I finally got up to Michelle Obama, I literally burst out, ‘My feet are killing me,’ and she goes, ‘Girl, my feet are killing me, too.’ I asked if I can take my shoes off and...

President Obama enjoys quoting or paraphrasing Martin Luther King, Jr.’s remark that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” Like his oft-repeated phrase that his political opponents are “on the wrong side of history,” the statement suggests Obama’s view that real-world events will ultimately shift to what he thinks they ought to be, regardless of his own actions. As chaos both domestic and abroad has shown, there is more to be done to influence the course of events than to dispense platitudes.

President Obama and his family took advantage of 88 degree temperatures and sunny skies on Sunday to go for a hike in the Prince William Forest Park in Virginia. The nature walk comes a few days after the National Park Service celebrated its 100-year anniversary on Thursday. Obama marked the centennial last week by designating a new national monument in Maine’s north woods, protecting 87,500 acres, including the East Branch of the Penobscot River.

During her July 25 speech at the Democrat National Convention, Michelle Obama talked about moving into the White House and watching “big men with guns” take their daughters to school. She said this by describing life after taking up residence in the White House. She recalled her daughters “setting off for their first day at their new school,” adding, “I will never forget that winter morning as I watched our girls–just seven and ten years old–pile into those black SUVs with all those big men with guns.” The audience responded with a warm applause as Mrs. Obama talked about seeing...
