What limits are there on 912 DC Protester Signs?
A Tennessee Patriot

Posted on 09/01/2009 7:39:43 PM PDT by TNoldman

I am going to the 912 DC March on the Capital with a 100 Patriots from Knoxville, Tn. Can anyone lead me to info that the DC Police consider acceptable Protest Signs - no wording but size of signs with/without stick attached, etc?

I have search the Internet and made phone calls to no avail.

Just don’t show it around any “rent-a-cops”.

Should have labeled it “Change Macht Frei”

I found this in an email from a local group here in WNY:

Here are some Do’s and Don’t’s for attendees of the March on Washington:

While participating in the March on Washington, you will be under the jurisdiction
of the United States Capitol Police. Here is a list of things to remember on Capitol
Grounds:

Signs with supports cannot be more than ¾ of an inch in diameter at their largest point
Sign supports must be wood and must have dull ends
Supports cannot have protruding nails, screws, or bolts
Signs cannot offer items for sale, solicit contributions, or engage in commercial
advertisement of any kind
Signs are not permitted within Capitol buildings
Tents, camping equipment, bedrolls, or shelters of any kind are prohibited
Do not climb, remove, or damage any statue, seat, wall, fountain, or elevator tower,
or any tree, shrub or other landscaping feature
Do not offer anything for sale or solicit contributions on Capitol Grounds
Firearms, explosives, clubs, missile, or any other weapons of any kind are prohibited
Open flames are prohibited
Failure to abide by these rules governing the use of Capitol Grounds could result in
fines, arrest, or both.

Remember, above all, be peaceful and respectful. Do not give them any reason to
discredit or dismiss us!

Not sure if this applies to members of their group or everyone attending the 9/12 DC Rally and they posted it as a courtesy to all.

In addition to your sign, don't forget the "dress code." ;^)

Billybob'll be there, in costume, without a holster, but with a good sign.

Good information - and something I had not put much thought into. Glad I stumbled across this thread and the links in it.

Or how about a huge Obama Joker sign? Would that be too “incendiary?”

Have an obama campaign poster on one side that looks innocuous. (But has a sarcastic message)

On the other side of the sign put what you want. Remember the 1st Amendment.

Can you mount your sign on a pitchfork?

So basically pitchforks and torches are a no-no? I suppose one would have expected that.

Doesn’t mean you can’t have a good PICTURE OF A PITCHFORK on your sign!

A friend will have a sign: GO GREEN, RECYCLE CONGRESS!!!

Is personal protection pepper spray banned from the 912 DC March?

I don’t know - I hope not... SEIU is planning on showing up Sunday for their own rally. I wouldn’t doubt they would come early to make us look bad. Please let me know if you find out for sure it isn’t allowed.
