Doubtful..go find the lyrics to the School Song.

And I will ask you the same question I asked the other poster. What would you think about your kids having to go to an Obama Elementary School, going to his Presidential library, honoring him, and singing the school song and handing out his favorite candy.

Those kids probably felt honored to do it..but it is still forcing kids to go along with something that is Republican Oriented..and if kid did not go..other children might make fun of him.

Would you have a problem if that song those kids were singing was about Obama saving the day for Santa Claus with his helicopter?

ooops, it appears schools did put together a special program for visiting REPUBLICAN Presidents....

Of course your post is a perfect example of why we must begin the process of shutting down **all** government K-12 schools and privatizing **all** K-12 education.

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A RELIGIOUSLY, CULTURALLY, AND POLITICALLY NEUTRAL SCHOOL!!!!

Yes, I am shouting. Stupid conservatives seem to think that government schools can be reformed. ( If only they could run them.) Government schools can't be reformed, because it is just as immoral to impose a conservative worldview on the nation's children ( and force taxpayers to pay for it) as it is to impose Obama’s radical, leftist communfascism.

That is another story. The bottom line
it is not uncommon for schools to do something for Presidential visits. They feel it is an honor. There may have been people upset that the kids were forced to sing about a Christian holiday when Reagan came to visit that put him as the Savior of Santa Claus and the delivering of presents.

Schools do it for Republican Presidents, TOO. Anyone that thinks schools don’t is showing incredible bias.

Not A Parody [Jonah Goldberg]

So, if Obama has his way, he is going to talk to our kids, and by our kids, I mean all of them. Here’s Arne Duncan’s letter to principals.

When I first heard about this story, I thought it was odd but probably ok. But then I read Frederick Hess at the Enterprise Blog who has looked at the suggested teaching materials to go with Obama’s speech:

Things get downright disconcerting when one eyeballs the federally approved lesson plans that the Department of Education has cooked up to support the president’s speech. The preK–6 lesson plans, which were developed with federal funds, devised on taxpayer time, and made available on the Department of Education’s website, exhort teachers to extend the impact of the president’s speech by having students “write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president.” This clumsy bit of cheerleading shows no awareness that ”help[ing] the president” might be construed as an invitation to engage in advocacy rather than instruction or that it might worry those who are not Obama partisans. What’s truly remarkable, however, given recent concerns about intrusive federal government this past month, is the lesson plan’s directive that “these [letters] would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals.”

It all sounds a touch Orwellian, no? “Redistributed” to whom? “Accountable” to whom? Accountable for which “goals” exactly—the ones that involve “helping the president”? I’m sure the intentions behind all of this were decent enough, and that this whole effort was intended as a pep talk dressed up with innocuous materials. The lesson plans were likely drawn up by a couple of low-level staffers and slapped up on the department website without a careful look. But this all points to some of the perils posed by the growing presidential inclination to serve as superintendent-in-chief, and it highlights the kind of hubris that has fueled concerns about the implications of the federal government’s growing reach.

In my book I discuss at some length how progressives, led by John Dewey, have always seen schools as vehicles for promoting statism. Sounds like Obama’s staying true to that vision.

That is another story.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It is impossible for government schools to be politically, religiously, or culturally neutral. That **is** the story.

Fundamentally, ( at its foundation and bedrock,) it is **impossible** to have a religiously, culturally, or politically neutral education. It is axiomatic.

That is why there are government school outrage stories every day of the week. Underlying all of these government school battles is a clash of political, cultural, and religious worldviews. Compromise on the worldview and the citizen has compromised his very soul.

There is only one solution: Begin the process of privatizing universal K-12 schooling.

I would be shocked...if obama did that. For me, this is about obama’s agenda, his history and crazy compadres from chicago and weather underground. I don’t think songs of praise are àppropriate.

But you see, these are schools who are doing something that has been done for decades..like the song about Reagan saving the day for Santa Claus. There are probably music teachers back in the day...that made up simple songs to teach kids music..and did it about Presidents, or whatever. It’s an activity

You are just putting a more sinister slant on it through your Fascism glasses..because you are more educated as to what is going on...and are worried about the Hitler Youth Brigade.

Would you really have had a problem if Laura bush or President Bush was going to do something like the Sept 8th school address???

Liberals would have probably screamed about it...but would you have had a problem???

The bottom line for me is that I can’t get upset over this song if it was done for a visit IN CONCEPT. I couldn’t hear all of the lyrics. For example, if they said Obama was the Messiah or Obama was God I would have a problem.

If it wasn’t for a visit..then you have to watch that slippery slope. I doubt Obama told them to do that song....but we could get to that point.

If my kid was in that school and came home with that song...I am not sure what I would do. Those are young kids.

Turnabout is fair play:
If obama is going to try and steal our children’s hearts and minds, then as parents, it is our duty to tell them the ugly truth about obama:
Tell them he thinks it’s ok to kill babies. Tell them he is friends with people who cut off the heads of people who have different religious ideas. Tell them he will put Mommy and Daddy in jail for being mean to the environment.
If your realationship with your children is weaker than than their relationship with their teacher/propogandist, you have more than the obamachrist to worry about.

I think using a variety of methods to teach children facts are necessary. I have no problem with music, poems, lyrics being used as tools to teach facts such as history. I did have a problem when most schools went PC and took halloween, christmas etc out. Putting a president in a themed story, doesn’t bother me as much.

You are right when you mentioned the glasses I am wearing. I too couldn’t hear all the words. I will listen again on better speakers to try to get a better idea. I know there have been stories of teachers spewing their bias in the classroom...so I will give you this one. (Now I have to figure out the words)

There was a video on FR yesterday that showed a black teacher with an obvious bias..she would say things like OH JESUS when a student said they were “pulling” for Mccain. One of the students had a father in Iraq. The teacher was carrying on about how if Mccain was elected her daddy would be there for a hundred years.

In a later interview she tried to whitewash how she handled the questions of the students.

Yes, parents in the US are going to have to be viligant. I would be raising hell if that little white girl was my daughter being told her Daddy would have to stay in Iraq for 100 years.

What are you defending this Nazi-style 0bozo indoctrination of our kids for? First of all, until the era of 0bozo, for previous presidents (Repub or DemoRAT) schools were never named after the president while he was still in office. Until 0bozo however. Secondly, a school song that mentions the name of school as being "Kennedy High" or "Hoover" High or "Martin Luther King" High, or "Reagan High" was just the name of the school, not praising or worshipping or chanting the person's name as if in some type of trance. Thirdly, you tell me the lyrics of Reagan grade school, since you're the one who brought it up? Better yet, just let this stupid back & forth arguing end now. You're a DU troll & moron.

WTH are you doing anyway??? You just can't let this die, can you? You are arguing in favor of Nazi-style 0bozo Hitler youth indoctrination of our kids. You're wrong and you know it. Me thinks you protest too much -- Shakespeare.

Get outa here and go back to DU land. You're nonsensical, irrational and a pest. Leave now. Go to DU land. You will fit right in.They love to praise & worship the 0bozo anti-christ messiah. the in

You’re a DU troll. GTH outa here!!! You haven’t said anything intelligent so far, other than to argue in favor of Nazi-style 0bozo Hitler youth indoctrination of singing mantras & chants & praises to 0bozo. And you’re equating this to a school song that mentions the name of the president if that is who the school is named after. You stand by what you said, which defends Nazi-style 0bozo Hitler youth indoctrination, which is evil & demented & Orwellian. Leave now DU troll.
