Here is the Federal website regarding what they have asked the Principals. They say it is a historic moment? Why is it historic? Outrageous moment? In what way are they going to "work with" our independent local schools?

Corinth, Mississippi. I called my daughter’s school and expressed my opinion to the Principal. The Principal said that we are still here and conservative and will not put it on. Ironically, several parents had called and were not happy with what is coming down the pike.

Keep you children home that day; then pull them and homeschool them.

Here is the body of letter [personal info redacted] I just dispatched to my own School District Superintendent and School Board Members:
Dear Doctor ______,

Barack Obama has announced that he wishes to address all school students on September 8th. It is reported that his staff has sent out letters to School Principals nationwide. They have prepared "educational" program material to go along with this.

Creepily and ominously the letter and the lesson plan material do NOT mention what the topic of the speech is to be. Yet the lesson plans make clear that Obama demands -- for to say that a man in such an office "strongly desires" something carries to the force of a strict command from regular folk. Barack Obama thus demands that the students should agree with what he says, find that it is important and act upon it.

My strong recommendation as a concerned citizen resident in this school district is that the district NOT participate in such an event, because the topic and subjects to be discussed are unknown.

For an everyday example we all know that as responsible adults it is unwise to allow oneself to be subjected to a sales pitch for time shares at some vacation resort or some multilevel marketing scheme. Why? Because as a captive audience it is tough not to have our minds stolen to some degree by the sales pitch or the con -- and let's face it, many of those things are cons.

If Mr. Obama wishes to address this group of our community let it be NOT as some captive audience. The children in a classroom or auditorium have no choice but to sit through such a speech. Nor is it wise or responsible for an adult in charge of such vulnerable young minds and spirits to allow anyone free access to them in a captive situation such as a classroom or auditorium without first reviewing and approving the lesson plan. A plan that MUST INCLUDE the subject to be discussed and what is to be discussed about it.

It is the absence of such statement from Obama about what he intends to discuss that makes this so creepy and ominous. That is why my subject line asked, "Is this dictatorial-like political indoctrination?"

See the Fox News report: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/02/critics-decry-obamas-lesson-plan-students/

I feel it is imperative that the responsible adults in charge of the student body of _________ School District do what is right in this case. And that is to not ever allow such a presentation no matter who asks to make it. Let them provide a video that may be reviewed for content first. And then decide if it is a worthwhile or good thing to do.

Please do not participate in this dictatorial indoctrination on September 8th. That is what it is at this point. Pure dictatorial political indoctrination.

It would be irresponsible to allow it, it would be a dereliction of your duty to the young charges who are your responsibility to protect and to build their intellects, spirits and morals.

Sincerely,
[name]
[town]

I called my local school district, and they had not heard a thing about it as of yet. They are going to call me back. I told the lady on the phone that if they were going to do that I would not have my kids in school.

I got a call back almost immediately from the superintendent of the schools here who had gotten an email a couple of weeks ago she said. She told me that it had been forwarded on to the individual schools, but that only one small highschool had expressed any interest.

I told her that I didn’t feel that it was appropriate in the schools, when she asked me. She also asked me if I felt that this was something that should be told to parents if a school was going to participate in it. I said yes, I did. She asked what the program was supposed to be about, and I told her that I had heard it was about “what is the president? why should you listen to him” bla bla. and that I didn’t think that sort of propaganda had any place in the schools.

She told me that she would be talking to the Elementary school Principle my kid goes to and that parents would be notified if they school planned on doing this with the option to opt out if parents so choose.

Woo Hoo! This works for me.

She said that this had slipped under the radar and she was glad I had brought it to her attention again!

:)

my neighbor is Principal of the local high-school, and sadly, I get the feeling that if he resisted a directive from General-Secretary Obama he would quickly find himself on the unemployment line.

Love your photoshop! Here’s a caption:

“At this moment the entire group of people broke into a deep, slow, rhythmic chant of ‘B-B! .... B-B! .... B-B!’—over and over again, very slowly, with a long pause between the first ‘B’ and the second—a heavy murmurous sound, somehow curiously savage, in the background of which one seemed to hear the stamps of naked feet and the throbbing of tom-toms. For perhaps as much as thirty seconds they kept it up. It was a refrain that was often heard in moments of overwhelming emotion. Partly it was a sort of hymn to the wisdom and majesty of Big Brother, but still more it was an act of self-hypnosis, a deliberate drowning of consciousness by means of rhythmic noise.”

Here in Texas we have Independent School Districts, ours is named Keller ISD. It is in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area & overlaps 3 cities.

They said they are making the program available for participation, and each teacher will decide if they want to use the curriculum in their class. Which is CONVENIENT because the kids in the higher level all change classes to you have to address each one.

The school indicated they are working on a parent authorized opt-out program. My husband asked if that would be opting out of just the speech or the teachers curriculum also. They weren’t sure but thought both.

They said they are being innundated with huge numbers of calls and were given a script from the district to read from.

We are also ordering pocket Constitutions and Declaration of Independences for them to take to school & hand out. Our kids were previously in private school and can articulate an argument to questions like “Why is it important to listen to our representatives?”

We will be reviewing how to present the answers in a non-combative but questioning way to get other kids who don’t know, to question as well. Being armed with the documents to back up their statements as well if adults try to tell them they are wrong..

I think this is important as this issue will not be going away, and I’m sure this won’t be the last communication directly to the kids.

My son called the school (our grandson is in 10th grade) and the school said they do not have the capabilities to broadcast the address for the entire school and that some history teachers MAY (at their discretion) use the speech for discussion purposes.
We are not in a liberal strong hold here. But it’s always good to be involved!
The word got out.
Thanks
