The following is a memo from ABC News president David Westin to ABC News staff today:
Today, Charlie Gibson announced to his colleagues at World News that he has decided to step down as anchor effective at the end of this year. I attach below Charlie's full email.
I have asked Diane Sawyer to serve as the next anchor of World News, and she will assume that position in January.

I might actually start watching the evening broadcast again, if that happened. The only way I'm watching Diane Nichols is if she promises to set herself on fire the first night.
I’ll give her this much, she was a little minx back in the day. Sawyer, not Couric. Couric has always looked like she should live in a tree and bake cookies.
I believe she’s being assigned the “last one left turn out the lights” anchor chair.
At Sawyer’s age, she doesn’t qualify as a “chick” anymore.
Gibson retiring? Good. I’ve had “enough already!”
Gibson is a hero in my book for this:
GIBSON: All right. You have, however, said you would favor an increase in the capital gains tax. As a matter of fact, you said on CNBC, and I quote, “I certainly would not go above what existed under Bill Clinton,” which was 28 percent. It’s now 15 percent. That’s almost a doubling, if you went to 28 percent.
But actually, Bill Clinton, in 1997, signed legislation that dropped the capital gains tax to 20 percent.
OBAMA: Right.
GIBSON: And George Bush has taken it down to 15 percent.
OBAMA: Right.
GIBSON: And in each instance, when the rate dropped, revenues from the tax increased; the government took in more money. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down.
So why raise it at all, especially given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected? ...
GIBSON: But history shows that when you drop the capital gains tax, the revenues go up.

I know none of these people. Haven’t watched network “news” in ages...
From what I understand, Theuriau is actually a very competent, professional journalist who covers substantive issues far more objectively than most of our MSM.
And I read Playboy for the articles. ;)
I’m actually quite serious. She really is competent and professional. Her good looks wouldn’t hurt, of course. Heck, she could do the news in French and it would be fine with me... she’d outdraw O’Reilly... /g
