I received a letter warning of Obama's plan to speak to public Schools.(vanity)
vanity

This is my first vanity post ever but I though it worth mentioning. I live near New Orleans and my son attends a public school elementary. I received a letter today informing me that my son's school would be showing Obama's address to the nation's school children on September 8th. It gives a basic synopsis as to what it will contain as well as informing me that I may want to go to www.ed.gov to learn more about it. It also tells me that I can chose to have my child not participate by letting the principal know and that they will find an alternate assignment for him outside the classroom. Has anyone else here recieved any similar letters from their children's schools. My daughter attends a Christian School and I've heard nothing from them but I don't know if they will even show it there, it's a very conservative Baptist School.

I contacted our Superintendent and Principals and asked them to at least record it for screening, “ as they would any other material”

They all liked and agreed with the suggestion!

Keep him home that day. They won’t get their federal money and you can have a bit of time with your son. I bet the Christian school will not show it. Then YOU’d be paying for them to do that, and I don’t believe the parents would put up with that.

Menu of Classroom Activities President Obama’s Address to Students Across America (Grades 7‐12)

Found this here

My favorite part:
Create a “concept web.” Teachers may ask students to think of the following:
Why does President Obama want to speak with us today?
How will he inspire us?
How will he challenge us?
What might he say?
Do you remember any other historic moments when the president spoke to the nation?
What was the impact?
After brainstorming answers to these questions, students could create a “cause‐and‐effect” graphic organizer.

How will he inspire us? Oh brother!

There is no mention of an accompanying lesson plans.

This is just part of what is supposed to be furnished to teachers.

Oddly enough, here in northern NJ, my kids’ principal says he knows nothing about it and would send a leter to parents before showing it.

I read Gov. Perry of Texas was virtually ordering schools not to show Zero’s speech. Hooray for him!

More probably written by them and paid for by the US taxpayers. :0/

I called the Shawnee Mission School Dist in the KC area to inquire about “Obama Day.” I was told it is optional with the teachers in the district. If they chose to have the Obama broadcast in the classroom, parents will be notified and their children may opt out of the classroom during the propaganda. Propaganda MY word . . . not theirs!!

How does your area of New Jersey lean politically? Although I’m north of New Orleans it leans politically Conservative where I’m at. Bobby Jindal was our congressman before he was elected governor.

...help the president.

Not capitalized? Maybe there's nothing to it, but I find it interesting.

My part of Jersey is either center or left (read: left in any other non-coastal part of the country). Our “right” is fiscal conservatives (ala Giuliani, Gov. Whitman), but there really are few social conservatives here; at this point, our hope lies with Latinos and Islam as far as traditional families, abortion, etc.
