This is my first vanity post ever but I though it worth mentioning. I live near New Orleans and my son attends a public school elementary. I received a letter today informing me that my son's school would be showing Obama's address to the nation's school children on September 8th. It gives a basic synopsis as to what it will contain as well as informing me that I may want to go to www.ed.gov to learn more about it. It also tells me that I can chose to have my child not participate by letting the principal know and that they will find an alternate assignment for him outside the classroom. Has anyone else here recieved any similar letters from their children's schools. My daughter attends a Christian School and I've heard nothing from them but I don't know if they will even show it there, it's a very conservative Baptist School.

Even if 0 had an upbeat message, I wouldn’t want my kid hearing a liar and possibly looking up to a communist.
Take your son out of public school and send him to the conservative Baptist school that your daughter attends!
Kudos to the principal. I would have my children opt out - I wouldn't trust Obama to read the local weather forecast. This is setting a precident, where the President of the USA not only demands that schools carry his message, but also the teachers assign students tasks based upon his talk.
The schools cannot teach basic math, science or reading skills - why are they now expanding their jobs? How about they get the basics covered, so we can at least compete with other 3rd world countries?

Have your son given an alternate assignment... in the Baptist School.
It should be the other way around. Kids who want to be indoctrinated should sign up to leave the classroom to participate and the normal kids should resume their regular lessons. This way Liberals isolate the “weird” kids who don’t want to worship thier cult messiah.

It seems many schools are offering “alternate assignments”...but what are those assignments going to be? Something onerous so your child feels like a fool for not doing the easy Obama “assignment” with his/her peers?
