LA Times: Calls to boycott Obama's speech to kids offer a disturbing lesson in paranoia
Los Angeles Times ^ | 9/5/2009 | Tim Rutten

Those who are whipping up hysteria over the president's address are playing a dangerous game with an unhinged segment of public opinion.

While it long ago crossed the borders of reason and civility, the hysteria over healthcare reform is -- at some level -- understandable, because wellness and infirmity are really just stand-ins for those most terrifying of issues, life and death.

But there is no similar way to rationalize the bizarre controversy now raging over President Obama's plan to deliver a brief televised address on Tuesday to the nation's grammar school children.

According to Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Obama will "challenge students to work hard, set educational goals and take responsibility for their learning. He will also call for a shared responsibility and commitment on the part of students, parents and educators to ensure that every child in every school receives the best education possible so they can compete in the global economy for good jobs and live rewarding and productive lives as American citizens."

Sounds innocuous. Who, after all, could be against good study habits, personal responsibility and productive lives? As it turns out, quite a number of people who seem to believe that Obama intends to induct their children into -- well, it's not quite clear what they're afraid of. The Web and talk radio are abuzz with various attempts to organize a boycott of Tuesday's speech. One group is urging parents to demand that their children be excused from watching the president and be sent instead to the school library to read the Founding Fathers. (The theory, one supposes, is that a good dose of the Federalist Papers will inoculate the young against Obama's attempts to subvert the republic through good grades.)

The LA Times can’t see the Kenyan doing cult building because they’re already Obamabots.

Snap out of it!

Hey LA Slimes, still waiting for you to release that tape of Obama toasting Rashid Khalidi, it’s been what, almost a year, still waiting patiently...waiting...waiting...

Sounds innocuous.

Yeah, and they lie. The lesson plans asked about how students could be challenged to help Obama (before a "paranoid" public caused him to pull that part.)

I’ll file this with all my LA Times articles about the paranoid nuts who believed the Bush government was behind 9/11.

Hmm... I can’t seem to locate those at the moment...

Just because you’re paranoid, it doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you. (Or indoctrinate your kids ..... and take away your stuff.)

Obama is yet crossing another line that no other President ever dared to cross in the history of our Republic. He is messing up and trying to destroy the very foundations of the American value system. This is America and not a third world country where the President is interfering in every aspect of people lives and in their faces 24/7 including in the faces of children and youngsters at school.

But would have no problem if a Bush speech were boycotted.

Dept of Education Guideline, Grade 7 - 12:
• What resonated with you from President Obama’s speech? What lines or phrases do you remember?
• What are the three most important words in the speech? Rank them.

Based on previous speeches, I'd speculate "I won" or "Sit back and enjoy it" or "I, me, I, me, I, me." You sure won't hear "freedom," "liberty," "limited government" or "pursuit of happiness."

But there is no similar way to rationalize the bizarre controversy now raging over President Obama's plan to deliver a brief televised address on Tuesday to the nation's grammar school children.

Doesn't need rationalizing Tim.

The children belong to their parents Tim.

They are not "the nation's grammar school children" Tim.

Those parents pay for the schools and all the school employees (that includes all the teachers and the administrators) Tim.

Anytime they decide the school is doing something they consider to not be in the best interest of their children, they can withdraw them Tim.

They don't need your approval Tim.

So here's the bottom-line Tim.

Stuff it, nobody's listening to your leftist spew any more Tim.

P.S. Say Tim, how's your job prospects looking at the paper these days? Maybe you should have gotten a clue that nobody was listening, by the downward spiraling circulation of your "birdcage liner", eh Tim?

Now, if this was Bush piped into the classrooms with a study guide for the children asking them to think of ways they can help him, the LA Times would be writing a different story. I don’t think they would be calling it paranoid.

The implication in all this is that parents and teachers aren’t already telling kids to work hard and study, so we need to beam in the face of the Chicago street thug to show them how it’s done.

What is the pricetag for this? Funny how they never bring that up.

Timmy really needs to try to come out of his office a little more often. He’d be paranoid too if he knew what is going on out here.

Why can’t these Obamabots understand. We will tell our children to study hard, and we will see that they arrive at school on time. That would be WE—THE PARENTS.

My fear is that the first speech will be fairly inocuous, but future speeches will start to tread into areas that I don’t want my kid listening to:

Go home and tell your parents to support my plan blah blah blah

Then all the libs will say it’s no big deal, he’s been talking to our kids every month.

Next thing you know, they’ll be worshipping him. He’ll be able to see into the classrooms and make sure they are all saluting him. SCARY
