Toomey calls Obama speech 'inspiring'
Politico ^ | September 8, 2009 | Josh Kraushaar

In his past incarnation as the president of the conservative Club for Growth, Pat Toomey would have been hard-pressed to praise any speech from President Obama – no less one that’s been maligned by conservative activists.

But as he seeks to win over independents and moderates in his Pennsylvania Senate campaign, Toomey is taking a markedly different approach: Even as conservative critics accused the president of trying to indoctrinate students with a back-to-school speech, Toomey called the president’s speech to high school students “inspiring” and “moving.”

Considering the speech was probably watered-down and the lesson plan scrapped, this was an easy enough sop to some squishy indie voters. Doesn't bother me.

Smart political move. Toomey has nothing to lose by stating this, and he can draw some Indie votes over to his side.

Didn’t Toomey also say he would have voted to confirm Sotomayor if he had been in the Senate?

Yes, I found his complete deletion of his stepfather and grandparents from his life to be particularly moving. I won’t say in which direction.

The only pimple on an otherwise clean white ass was the planted question about healthcare.

I heard here in Portland, OR that Obama's speech was not
broadcast in some schools because of technical difficulties.
This made me think that this speech was just a dry run for Obama
to address our school children when there is a real or perceived threat to our
nation. If something would happen, then he can address the students and tell them
what to think before the parents can interpret the news for them.
Parents are the biggest threat to Obama's hold on our children.
I am sure by now all the school districts are scrambling to perfect
this direct linkup with the White House.

Inspiring, moving, and all part of one big lie to embellish his image as a po’ boy with a “single Mom”.

Although the thing was full of lies and the lesson plan was still published that it WAS all about Obamer...

....I do think it would be basically viewed as inspiration speech and to lambaste it would be for Toomey to put himself in front of a train of criticism that would definitely not be worth it.

In fact, Newt Gingrich said the same this morning.

I for one do not believe that Obamer got up at 4:30 in the am to get special study lessons from his mother who could not afford to send him to the special American school because...why the hell 4:30 in the am? This looks like a lie bigger than Pinnochio’s nose and as for not being able to afford....what? Sotero was a bigwig in the Indonesian gubmint and Barry’s grandparents could afford to send him to a pricey private Hawaiian school.

This is too much nuance for the so-called moderates to absorb so best to just pass on it.

The only thing inspiring about this was that our voices made him change his tune and tone. We saved our children from having to listen to an hour long presentation of his socialist BS and curriculum handed to the teachers. He pared it down to a 15 minute speech.

We made him back off, and that’s inspiring.

Truly inspiring...Obama depicting himself as a “poor black child of a single mother.” Give me a break while I laugh myself sick.

Obama is a sociopathic manipulator, and it sounds like Toomey fell for it.

But even leaving aside the content of the speech, he had no business “addressing the nation’s children.” The lesson plans and focus on Obama are still in place, btw.

It is a matter of principal. Education is a local issue and federal officials have no business being involved in any way whatsoever. Not even if Tom Jefferson had been elected last year.

I hope Toomey didn’t get tear stains of joy all over his nice, shiny shoes.
