Forming the ‘Leave Me Alone’ Party

“Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.” –Michelle Obama

There is a right not specifically spelled out in the Bill of Rights but implicit in every restriction on the federal government: the right to be left alone.  Our nation was founded by individuals seeking relief from overbearing governments and religions.  Rugged individualism isn’t merely a conceit of John Wayne movies.  It has been and will continue to be a way of life for Americans who believe this nation was founded on the rights of the individual.  Not the rights of government.

Yet today we are saddled with the most overbearing, intrusive government in American history, a gang of socialist ideologues who seek to exercise control over every facet of human existence including our food, the education of our children, and our exercise habits.  People may argue where this urge to control the lives of others originates, but there can be no doubt that the present administration does not see individual liberties when they look at the constitution.  They see the governments’ rights and the subjects’ obligations.  They have turned the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights on its ear.

They see individuals only in terms of how much money they can ...

We already have the "mascot" and this is the bird that we need to fly the Dems

I agree.

Taxes will A truth.

The intention is to have us so burdened with higher taxes that we can not have the hope of ever paying them down.

And ... soon a devaluation of our money will hit us broadside. We will descend into a third world

It is easier to prevent a fire than recover from it.

We must be vigilant. Not allow the current happenings to stand and become life as a norm.

Our elected communist dictators want to control every aspect of our lives, from light bulbs to cars to healthcare. I don’t feel too damned cooperative. Let’s get this nonsense over with.

We have a place in Rhode Island...on a lake. I used to fly Old Glory on the flag pole in front.
Since 0bama has taken office...I have started flying a brand new 4x6 Gadsden flag instead. On occasion I fly both....like Independence Day.

Amen! I could care less about keeping Jesus in schools, bringing “democracy” to cavemen, and making a federal issues out of the personal (think Schiavo OR “gay rights”). Hey Government: LEAVE US PATRIOTS ALONE!

“Men must be governed by God,
or they will be ruled by tyrants.”

- William Penn

Try to strike the root of evil, rather than hack at the branches. The Bible was banned from public schools in 1963, as a necessary step, just as subversion of the German church was a necessary step.

Have a great day.

I love it. If I had to boil down my political philosophy to just 3 words, they would probably be "Leave Me Alone." That's what conservatism really means, IMO.

Unfortunately a lot of Americans don't mind government intrusion if it gives them the power to intrude on others. Some of those Americans participate on this site, even.

How do we get them to change their minds?

How do we get them to change their minds?

Good question. Short answer...I don't know. A sea change in public attitudes about government intrusion would be required. I suppose since government has tried to turn this into "Nerf" world where nothing can ever hurt you it has ended up cultivating a docile tax-paying public.

I think it may be chicken-egg question.

Did we elect a government that cultivated a culture of wusses?

Or did we first become wusses and then elect people to reinforce our scaredy cat world view?

Sorry Clemenza but I think that ROTB is correct.

This doesn't mean that we will have a state sponsored religion or that everyone MUST become a Christian, but the unusual (in comparison to other countries) level of freedom afforded us by our Constitution only works with a people that are "self-governing".

Just my .02
