Last night during President Obama's speech to the nation on health care reform from the floor of congress, a heckler or child depending on who you ask, yelled out "you lie" as President Obama was talking about illegal aliens not included in health care reform.
Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC) is responsible for the shout-out and the destiny's of at least two politicians were set in motion.
The first being Rep. Wilson, right after the speech he received criticism from not only the left, but from the right as well. Senator Jon McCain (R-AZ) during an interview with CNN after the speech said Wilson was "totally disrespectful" and said Wilson needs to "apologize immediately"
Wilson said that after the speech the GOP leadership insisted that he apologize to the White house and tell them that his outburst was "inappropriate". Wilson called White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and apologized.
Wilson office then issued a public apology: "I let my emotions get the best of me," Wilson said. "While I disagree with the president's statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility."
So who is Rob Miller?
Rob Miller (D-SC) is a former Marine Capt. and the democrat who ran against Wilson for South Carolina's 2nd congressional district seat in 2008 and lost, but he made a good race of it with little in campaign contributions. But because of Wilson's outburst last night, Miller has been getting campaign contributions from democrats all across the country. At last count Miller has raised over $460,000 dollars for the 2010 mid term election, not bad for just one day. In last years election Wilson won with 53.7 percent of the vote.
While Wilson's childish outburst will play well with the hardcore right wing base in his district, it won't play well with moderate republicans and independents and certainly not with democrats.
The GOP party in South Carolina is still reeling because of their Governor Mark Sanford's affair with a women in Argentina. Joe Wilson and his outburst has put another cloud over South Carolina's GOP politics.
The money that Rob Miller has raised because of Wilson's outburst may very well be the undoing of Joe Wilson, time will tell.
Just another spineless Republican politician who speaks his mind then has reservations about it and grovels at the feet of the liberals begging for forgiveness.
Really? We have the most left president and congress destroying our country,
and people in South Carolina are gonna vote Dem because Joe Wilson
spoke truth to power?(John Kerry’s favorite saying)
McCain is on the Right? I missed it.
He received criticism from the right? McCain? Don’t make me laugh!
I understand your confusion, the headline does not jive with the article.
Okay, it was unparliamentary for Joe Wilson to call the president a liar during the joint session.
...but not untrue.
Oh really?
I thought it was, "Garcon, there's a mouche in mon potage."
Miller is a Democrat.
That is a very good answer and the people of his district are standing behind Wilson. Class act to apologize for lack of decorum but not for the sentiment. Class act is something you won’t see out of the Dems and last night this caused the media to show clips of the Dems being disrespectful to Pres Bush.
Dems are mad because it highlighted the lies being told by ZERO and their own disrespect of Pres Bush.
Would say this will go down as a winner for Wilson and the GOP who have taken advantage to highlight the House bills do contain language to give illegals health insurance and the Dems defeated two amendments to close the loopholes.
He's the guy who's going to lose - again - to Joe Wilson in 2010.
Let's face it, in his conservative SC district, this "outburst" isn't going to hurt Wilson very much. In fact, when interviewing voters in the district, about the worst the MSM could find was voters who were "surprised" at it - and that because he has such a local reputation for having a soft-spoken manner.
And as they say in politics, a month is a lifetime. By the time Nov 2010 rolls around, nobody is going to give a rip about this. Especially not after ObamaCare, rammed through over the objections of an unwilling public, begins to implode.
The only reason Miller did as well as he did (46% to Wilson's 54%) in 2008 was because of the massive turnout increase generated by the novelty of Obama at the head of the ticket. That boost will evapourate from next year's election, returning Wilson to his typical comfortable 65%-35% margin of victory.
Well, it's good to see the socially autistic take on this whole affair.
I also note that the “Examiner” failed to report that Rep. Wilson has suddenly begun to receive contributions from around the nation as well. I wonder how much they outweigh the ‘rats?
Geez, I'm battin' zero today. Thought the article was about the Congressman who called Hussien a liar, then apologized to him.
The first being Rep. Wilson, right after the speech he received criticism from not only the left, but from the right as well. Senator Jon (sic) McCain (R-AZ) during an interview with CNN after the speech said Wilson was "totally disrespectful" and said Wilson needs to "apologize immediately"
Sorry David, but criticism of Wilson from McCain is certainly not coming from the right. Criticism from McCain and the democrats only constitutes criticism from the left and the far left.
It was about him, and it was sort of about his campaign opponent whose name appears in the title.
Who called Saddeam a liar? At least the repubbies ‘fess up about the “wimmens”, and the demirats try to claim “immaculate conception” when caught. (see John Edwards for confirmation)
Criticism from the “right” by Senator Jon McCain. LMAO.
That all depends on what side of the isle he woke up on.
I would have held Wilson in higher regard had to told McCain where to stuff it.
Did anyonyone see Joe Wilson on Hannity last night? He looked as if he’d been tasered.
Morning Joe described Wilson as looking “like he was in a hostage video”.
