U.S. Sen. Richard Burr's approval rating remains below 40 percent, which might ordinarily be bad news for a politician, but he's still ahead of any of his potential Democratic challengers in next year's election, according to a poll released Friday.
The approval rating for Burr, a Republican, was 38 percent, according to the survey by Public Policy Polling, a Democratic firm. In matchups against possible Democratic opponents, Burr beat:
U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge, of Lillington, by 41 to 34 percent.
Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, who officially launched her candidacy this week, and former Lt. Gov. Dennis Wicker, by the same margin of 42 to 31 percent.
Former N.C. Sen. Cal Cunningham by 42 to 30 percent.
Chapel Hill Mayor Kevin Foy by 43 to 29 percent.
Durham lawyer Kenneth Lewis by 43 to 27 percent.
The survey of 600 voters was taken Sept. 2 to 8 and has a margin of error of 4 percent.
Whats up with this? Is he an unpopular RINO?
Burr is largely unknown. As should probably come as no surprise from a state that just voted for Barack Obama.
his goal is 51%. NOthing more nothing less.

Always good to have a democratic mouth piece pollster for sure fire solid reliable information
Burr’s a snoozoid, but he has the opportunity, between now and the election, to take a stand on something that will energize the Republican base and give him a comfortable victory over any Democrat drone. Anything would do! Are you listening, Sen. Burr?
What’s interesting is that Elaine Marshall has been SoS for 13 years. Etheridge has a Triangle based House seat. You think Marshall and Etheridge would have more media exposure. Yet NC voters are unfamiliar withthem.
Club for Growth gave him 80%, #15 in Senate. Sen. Eliz. Dole got 48% and #40th. Burr’s not perfect, but well above RINO territory.
Yeah. In comparison everyone in Illinois knows who Jesse White is.
I have yet to find Burr voting against NC’s best interest and I have received a snail mail letter to any comment made to his office. He is simply not flashing.
Burr has turned out to be a zero. He isnt as conservative as Dole..and she is gone now. He refuses to take a stand...pulled a scam on the bridge to nowhere vote, endoresed McCain early in the primaries and was solid behind the total amnesty open borders bill....when it came time to vote he passed on his vote till the failure was certain then went along with it. He has no leadership role and will say anything to get re elected. I refuse to vote for him again.
Thanks, this explains his ratings.
Burr and his toe tapping staff/consultants will soon be BEGGING for Palin’s help...wait and see.
