Even Deborah Woods, 52, is shocked.
Not that she thought her great-aunt, Gertrude Noone, 110, would live forever, but it certainly seemed that way. That is why Thursday morning was so unsettling for those who learned Noone, whom the Army confirmed as its oldest living veteran, had died at her home at Carriage Green. She was the states second-oldest person.
I had a feeling shed be around for years, Woods said. It was expected, but still a little bit of a shock.
Noones health had started to take a turn for the worse when she turned 110 on Dec. 30.
She started to get a little tired. She was not as energetic as she was. She was not going to exercise class, Woods said. But Noone still enjoyed going out to eat once a week, especially at Jeffreys Restaurant, and getting her nails done twice a month.
Noone died in her sleep at 8:47 a.m. She was with her caregiver, Mary Delimini, who had lived with her for eight years and was someone Noone loved, Woods said.
Despite slowing down a bit after turning 110, Noone was still very perky, Woods said. Woods said her aunt was the oldest veteran in the world.

RIP.
Excercise class? Energetic? At 110 years old? What a woman.
I'm glad for her. She probably got all of you Social Security back and was obviously a great patriot.
...her social security....sorry
Gertrude Noone lived in three centuries and through 20 presidential administrations, beginning with McKinley.
The year she was born, USC’s football team had a winning season, with victories over Pomona College, the Pasadena Athletic Club, and the Phoenix Indian School, but lost to Los Angeles High School.
