He was known for his outspoken anti-abortion protests all around Owosso.
"When I went into town, you'd often see him on his corner," says friend Ron Ackals.
And as he was picketing Friday morning outside Owosso High School, prosecutors say 63-year-old James Pouillon was gunned down-- shot up to 10 times-- by a drive-by shooter targeting the man for his message.
When 33-year-old suspect Harlan Drake was apprehended at his home, police learned more.
"Upon his arrest, he made statements he'd been involved in another homicide that day," says Owosso Police Chief Michael Compeau.
That led them to another crime scene: a gravel pit owned by 61-year-old Mike Fuoss, who was found shot to death in his Owosso Township office by an employee.
Shiawassee County Sheriff George Braidwood, a good friend of Fuoss', chokes up describing his reaction.
"Shock first, then comfort knowing we have good officers and detectives to make sure it's justified," Braidwood says.
Pouillon's close friend Mike McCloskey is distraught.
"Just because someone has different opinions shouldn't result in someone shooting someone else," says McCloskey.
McCloskey says Pouillon is a retired GM worker who has at least one daughter, and his ex-wife was killed in a car accident. Others say Pouillon had been protesting abortion for decades.
According to friends, Fuoss has two gravel pit companies in the area.
As word spreads about the tragedies that happened outside the high school and at the gravel pit, friends of both victims wonder how-- if at all-- the two murders were connected.
"Right now we don't know," Braidwood says. "The two victims might not have been connected at all."
Police do say Drake knew Fuoss but don't know if he knew Pouillon personally.
"It's hard. I'm sorry for my friend who this happened to, and I'm also sorry for the people dealing with this in this little, quiet town," McCloskey says.
Police say when they apprehended Drake at his home, he said he was planning to also kill Owosso realtor James Howe. Howe is, to our knowledge, okay.
Drake has been charged with two counts of 1st degree premeditated murder, one felony firearm count and one count of carrying a weapon with unlawful intent.
Combine those two conditions together and you have a person too dangerous to be allowed to walk the streets.

Like you I took it that trumandogz was attempting to equate the victim here with the Tiller killer.
No, not at all. However, both shooters are murdering scum.
The lad on the tear today looked to be on his way to emulating Tiller with multiple killings.
The guy who supposedly shot Tiller in church (IN CHURCH? A mass murdering notorious abortionist in church ~ wasn't that risking a lightning bolt at the least?) only killed one.
I think when we deal with murderers we have to create a continuum of acts and punishments, and moderate the punishment in terms of the numbers. For instance, T-bone a car and kill a driver ~ 6 months. T-bone an SUV and kill an entire Cub Scout patrol ~ a year. Shoot a guy in church. 10 years. Kill 60,000 babies. Strip your skin off an inch at a time while roasting you over a low fire until you expire ~ kind of soften you up for Hell.
We didn't quite get our laws in order before Tiller was taken from us ~ something I will always regret.
It is some odd ethics that compare the killing of a killer of babies to the killing of a man who protested the killing of babies.
Wait ‘til we get a load of the Left using the government to kill the eldery and the handicapped. That is going to be a bloodbath.
my parents walked peacefully outside an abortion clinic for probably 20 yrs....they thought it important...they never interferred and then never preached...my mom and dad had non -agrressive kindly attitudes and would offer prayer....they also gave heavily to Birthright.....
I think you are correct. The leftist-socialists have a very strange way of thinking. They love mankind in the abstract. They love the poor, they love oppressed minorities, they love woman overburdened with raising children, they love the homeless. But they love all these unfortunates conceptually. And because they subscribe to this promiscuous philanthropy, they don't need any other virtues like fidelity to your spouse, or love to your own family, or the restraint of your appetites for sex, food, power, fame, or money. One grand abstraction trumps all the other human virtues. So if you are a Teddy Kennedy and love the poor so much, it's no big deal if you kill your mistress in a drunken stupor. Your drunkenness, your infidelity, your killing of a mistress--all can be easily ignored because you have the only virtue that matters--a flabby love of the poor and oppressed as an abstraction.
And once we outlaw abortion in this country, we will be able to place abortion doctors and women who have abortions in prison.
Life is Life and decent people do not murder.
While Tiller was passing out the programs the shooter beat him to the draw.
Nothing more to it than that. A fair killing in the days before dueling was abolished.
Should we adjust our laws to bring back those days someone like Tiller would certainly be more careful.

It’s the first time I noticed how the media changed the term ‘pro-life’ to ‘anti-abortion’. I suppose ‘pro-life’ was too positive’ a phrase for those that are pro life. You got to paint them darker and make them ‘anti’ something.

And Scott Roeder can spend the rest of his nights is prison along with the other murdering thugs.
Start with these, all of them are guilty of murder including the women who have abortions, except for the ones whose lives are in danger unless they take the babies life. Even then some women have chosen to die before taking their babies life.

Well put. They also pursue a love for an abstract Utopia that never has come to pass because it is out of line with the details and reality of human nature and life. That is why when they get down to trying to make their Utopia, they end up killing millions of humans for not fitting into their abstract Utopia. They tell themselves, “after we get rid of this group or that group, we will have the new socialist man who will live in Utopia with the correct thinking and behavior.” Liberals have no problem with eugenics.
I think that is because they are unbalanced people. Crazy.

My point was that with a revival of the fine art of dueling, he'd be free to go about his business ~ not that you'd have to have anything to do with him. Aaron Burr found it difficult to continue some friendships he'd had prior to killing Alexander Hamilton for example.
