Howie Carr thread for the week.
radio doings: a report in yesterday's Boston Globe-Democrat says that ESPN is going off the air (WAMG 890) tomorrow and one thing that may well happen is WRKO's sister station, WEEI...you know, the folks who took over Howie's studio...could move to FM (93.7, based in Peabody, most likely, and perhaps 97.7, with a tower on Great Blue Hill) with ESPN landing on AM 850. Nothing is official but Entercom is "in talks" with ESPN. Meanwhile there is also speculation that Entercom may dump WRKO's 680 signal and send the programming perhaps to 107.3 (currently WAAF, rock) whose signal is based west of town. The speculation is that the new WRKO-FM would have WAAF's Greg Hill morning show plus Rush, Howie, etc. (and yes the Felon would prob. go somewhere)
Again nothing is official yet but the move to FM for WEEI, and perhaps WRKO as well, could well be on.

http://bostonradio.blogspot.com (with a report on the WEEI situation, "ESPN out at WAMG 890? by yours truly)
Again, all speculation. If WRKO moves you will hear about it here.
Entercom happening again? Howie was saying something about Junior being laid off maybe...maybe the person who helped put the podcast out went to DC with them, but who knows. I think a company called podzinger (oops or is it “everyzing”) does the podcast stuff but maybe they have someone who uploads bits etc
Keep in mind they were at Eastern Standard Tue and in DC
yesterday if that means anything.
OIC that might be it then.

Mike Dukakis redux: Oh, the horror
By Howie Carr | Friday, September 18, 2009 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists
After all these years, hes still a punch line - Mike Dukakis.
And heres the new, improved laff-riot line - Sen. Mike Dukakis.
I tested out the fresh gag Wednesday afternoon in D.C., where I was broadcasting my radio show. Pat Buchanan was sitting across the table from me, waiting to go on the air. We started talking about the states Senate-succession law which was changed at Ted Kennedys behest in 2004 and which before his death he demanded be changed back again, now that theres a Democrat governor.
You know who theyre going to pick? I said to Pat. Mike Dukakis.
He started laughing so hard I thought he was going to fall off the chair. Willie Horton! he yelled.
The tank! I responded.
Card-carrying member of the ACLU, Pat bellowed.
Whats the old saying, history repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce. Welcome to the farce. You cant make this stuff up. Not even a Globe columnist could.
Its Back to the Future time. Into the Wayback Machine, Peabody. For those of you who arent familiar with the man, the legend, the Massachusetts miracle, how lucky you are. Think Jane Swift, with eyebrows.
So many disasters, so little space. How about the two sheriffs he appointed who ended up in federal prison for corruption? How about his crooked education adviser, Gerry Indelicato, to whom he handed the presidency of Bridgewater State?
Remember good jobs at good wages? Massachusetts - a national model? And nationwide searches. His lead-pipe guarantee not to raise taxes? Mike Dukakis invented Jim Aloisi. When Billy Bulger said Jump, Pee Wee Dukakis asked, How high? Or, as the judge described the way Whiteys brother pushed Gov. Dukakis around as he was running for president in 1988: How can he stand up to the Russians when he cant stand up to a corrupt midget?
Willie Horton wasnt the only one who got a weekend furlough from Mike Dukakis. Stevie Flemmis brother, Jimmy the Bear, extended his 48 hours to three years. Then there was North End killer Vinnie Federico. In 1989, he said he needed to get out of MCI-Shirley to attend to family business.
He went to Medford and got himself inducted into the Mafia - the Patriarca crime family.
The Duke will fit in perfectly in Obamas Washington. This is the guy whose welfare department gave phony Social Security numbers to illegal aliens so they could go on the dole. Dukakis Medicaid program paid for a sex-change operation for a guy from New Hampshire, then gave him an all-expenses-paid vacation to Montreal for post-op therapy.
Im not making this up. The DOC paid for hair transplants for a gangster.
What a year for the U.S. Senate. First Al Franken, now Mike Dukakis. Can someone cue Peggy Lee - Send in the Clowns? Dont bother, theyre here.

“I cant stand listening to this guy, hes so trite...”
Who are you referring to Balls, Howie? Howie is da balls!
Fri show ping; death pool in 3 pm hour I would think
by the way Howie’s site lists to a “Senate succession roll call” but I think the page that’s linked refers to a US House bill about de-funding ACORN....?
Yep! That's what the man said! I just have time to make myself a nice cuppa tea to settle down to it with! :)
yup, though the howiecarr.com site (WRKO) lists nothing for 3 pm
I do know Howie had mentioned it and hope it indeed is on.
I think the vote was (to allow a temp replacement for Kennedy’s old seat)kicked down the alley to the next session.
