There were a couple of times that day that made me feel emotional...
I think 700-800K is low. It was at least a million. Two mill is not out of the ballpark.
A BIG THANKS to the DC Chapter for your awesome dedication and effort for these events, all of the last minute freeps that you do and for every single Friday evening at WR. You guys and girls ROCK !! It’s always a pleasure for us to come down and hang out with True Patriots !!
Please relay this to any in the DC chapter that I missed.

It was a great day! I wish I had met with some other FReeps.
The difference between astroturf and grass roots.
Below is my account to a cousin who could not make it. I have to admit that at some point I became very anxious. I have talked and chatted very casually about the idea that this may potentially lead to some type of Balkan style break-up or possibly a Civil War.
The results of which, I feel would be tragic.

The march was great; all very positive. I met people from all over the country including folks from NJ with Dump Corzine stickers and we chatted for a while.
I spoke with a man from Indiana who told me that it was very bad in the heartland, with unemployment at 15%. He told me that people were laying up arms.
At one point I was talking with a young couple (about 25 years old) from Fairfax, Virginia ~ the fellow was a native American and the girl was born in Russia. Anyway, the girl was telling me about growing up in the former USSR and food shortages and of wide scale economic problems caused by socialization. These 2 young people are actually hording gold and silver and are prepared to flee the US for Australia. I informed this girl that saving commodities was not a matter for me. We have been scraping by for a few monthes, we know what it is like to be poor.
She very practically informed me, “Start laying up bags of rice. It’s not to expensive, it won’t go bad and you’ll have something to eat if things get crazy ~ and you’ll have if things are fine.”
There were a lot of people talking about the potential break-up of the country due to the economic ,malfeasance put upon us by congress and Obama. I was just looking at the Capital dome during one of the speakers and the people had climbed up on top of the statues and were screaming and waving the Magsden, Dont Tread on Me flags (lots of Old Glory, but not as prominent as Magsden) and this big dark cloud came out and sat right over the dome. I turned around and looked back toward the Washington Monument and the place was simply packed with people climbing up on statues and waving flags and screaming.
I thought to myself, I wonder how I will look back from this day in 20 years. While I enjoyed the march and meeting all of the wonderful people, who really do care about the USA. I wonder what will become of this nation for myself and my children?
There were some awesome signs there.
They paid out of their pocket for their own expenses.
They didn't receive money to attend.
They didn't have transportation provided to them.
They arranged their own lodging, they didn't get to sleep in a union hall or some other location provided by a benefactor. (Full disclosure: I certainly did have my lodging provided for me :)
If they had a sign, they printed it themselves, and put their own message on it, and those messages were as varied as the number of posters.
Great post, rlmorel.
Message received. But your ping list went off the page and can’t tell who else you pinged.

Large crowd, easy to get lost. But I’ve heard stories of FReepers seeing people that they have never expected to see. Even myself.
I had a guy recognize me from the ‘Billie’ Ayers protest in Baltimore this past spring. There was only about 12 of us there. I was the only FReeper. The rest were from the Baltimore area.

I think all you see included are The DC Chapter folks, the remaining ones were RL and CD fingers.
Thanks for a FUN weekend !!
Boom! Great thread
Well done! I remember that extremely cold day in ‘07. Have really enjoyed reviewing everyone’s pictures and tales of their experience.
It’s nice to know that everyone has adopted the D.C. chapters’ rules for demonstrating (no profanity, respect law enforcement, etc.) I’ve seen several pics of park police looking bored ‘cause they had nothing to do.
I also suspect that the cleanliness of the mall after the event can be attributed to a greater number of former and current boy and girl scouts who were trained to leave an area better than they found it. Scout leaders everywhere are thilled that lesson stuck with them.
A good subject for a paper.
