As Race Debate Grows, Obama Steers Clear of It (NYT)

WASHINGTON — President Obama has long suggested that he would like to move beyond race. The question now is whether the country will let him.

He woke up on Wednesday to a rapidly intensifying debate about how his race factors into the broader discussion of civility in politics, a question prompted in part by former President Jimmy Carter’s assertion Tuesday that racism was behind a Republican lawmaker’s outburst against Mr. Obama last week as the president addressed a joint session of Congress.

Even before that, several conservatives had accused their liberal counterparts of unfairly tainting them as racists for engaging in legitimate criticism of the White House.

Mr. Obama’s response to all this, aides say, has been to tell his staff not to be distracted by the charges and to focus on health care and the rest of his policy agenda.

“He could probably give a very powerful speech on race, just as he did in the course of the campaign,” said Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Mr. Obama. “But right now his top domestic priority is health care reform. It’s difficult, challenging and complicated. And if he leads by example, our country will be far better off.”

And after he stumbled in July in accusing the police of “acting stupidly” by arresting the Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., he used the occasion for what he called a teachable moment.

Is there any phrase in the English language more condescending than "Teachable Moment"? Those two little words sum up all the patronizing superiority that is at the core of Obama and the Donks.

Of course, the lesson of the "Teachable Moment" here is that Democrats are race-baiting jerks. Maybe that is a lesson that Obama does not want us to learn...

I remember a line. It went something like this, “I can no more disavow Reverend Wright than I could disavow my own grandmother.” (Something like that.) Of course, he later came back and through Reverend Wright under the bus.

“...President Obama has long suggested that he would like to move beyond race...”

This should read, “After pandering to African-Americans, and sixties era leftists, President Obama’s chickens have come home to............ROOST!”

LOL - As Charles Krauthammer said last night on the FoxNews round table, Jimmy Carter MUST be working for the GOP!

Thank you, peanut boy. Instead of inducing remorse or guilt among white people who YOU THINK disagree with Obama because he's black, you've ACTUALLY induced indignation and outrage with ALL people who's only REAL disagreement with Obama is with his radical and destructive policies.

Jimmy Carter - the gift to the GOP that just keeps on braying!

As Steyn wrote, “Dissent is the highest form of racism”.

On my best day, I could not be half as good as Mark Steyn on his worst day. That's just beautiful...

Of course he does. You can’t self-impose the race card for it will morph into the ‘victim card,’ which garners no sympathy in modern American culture. You must have others impose the race card and you must ignore it - this shows you have the “power” to transcend race.

“(and not the good Red, like the red states)”

I was reflecting this morning on the Democrats serving up the Commie associated color Red to us years ago, and taking the color blue for their own identity.

We sat back and accepted once again their cunning and deliberate projection.

I don’t recall any protests. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I think the word he used was “disown,” which is quite stronger than “disaow,” IMO.

Dear Liberals,

Please be advised that your Race Card account has been closed. This decision was based on your account history of excessive over-limit spending. Please destroy your card immediately as it will no longer be honored.

Sincerely, The American People
(saw this on Free Republic yesterday)

It’s the Economy, Stupid!

It’s the color Green, Stupid!

That’s because his “historic speech on race” was the same old recycled blame-America, blame-whitey crap.

The media flipped the colors because assigning “red” to the democRats was a little to true and uncomfortable for them.

Blue has historically been used for the incumbent, red for the challenger.

That changed after 2000.
