Number 1 in your post is one of the scenarios Savage laid out yesterday. He went into the history of Persia and Russia and how it’s been rocky over the centuries. If this is the reasoning I can’t say I disagree and it may be the best international move made by this administration. I cannot see how a nuclear Iran would be in the interest of Russia.
He got scared when Russiaa played war games with China off our coast and threatened a nuke build up in Cuba and asked for ONE MILLION DOLLARS

The package deal. Not only does Russia get us not building a missile defense system, they get Ukraine and Georgia in the deal. And China gets goodies from us too, such as a defense trade cutoff with Taiwan. And they BOTH get us falling back to an idiotic launch on impact policy with our nuclear arsenal.
No wonder we are so screwed up as a country now. Even folks on our side don't have a clue what's going on.
Russia seeks a return of the Soviet Union and is allied closely with the ChiComs, Chavez, the Castro bros and others of the same ilk. Obama, as a loyal member of the U.S. communist left, is out to do whatever he can get away with to help them in this mission. In this case, help set the stage for an eventually Russian invasion of Poland and the Chec R. Look at what happened, and is going on right now, in Georgia.

It’s an interesting thing. People keep asking if Obama does what he does because he is dumb and naive or actually out to destroy the U.S. But to be a member of the commie left (who wants America to fall), one HAS TO be dumb and naive. So the answer IS “both”.

The opposite is true. The commie left likes to spend tons of money on government programs because it takes money away from the military. One of their main aims is to cripple us militarily. They don't really believe in all those ridiculous social programs they advocate. It's a "spend money on anything but the military so to weaken us internationally" agenda.
