it’s like when I lived near Detroit, and people would get frustrated because the police would not or could not clean up the crack houses....so they had a tendency to just mysteriously burst into flames....and afterwards, nobody in the neighborhood knew nuthin’!

They mention things going off in the “store.” As a fireman, my guess is pressurized canisters such as hair spray, paint etc.
It is rather exciting to go in offensive and have cans rocketing past your head!

The “blowing” and “exploding” were caused by damaged gas lines About a year ago, I watched a Pawn Shop, which was more gun store than pawn shop, burn to the ground. It had gas heat too. No explosions. Lots of ammunition cooking off, which sounded like irregular strings of firecrackers. But I was 100 yards or so away, on the other side of a 4 lane freeway. :) Burned like a bastard though, and you could tell which part of the fire was "gas fed".
