Praying for Glenn Beck (Washington Post- Christians Are Scary)
Washington Post ^ | 9/11/09 | David Waters

Posted on 09/19/2009 12:12:12 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Fox Newsevangelist Glenn Beck might be the most prayed for man in America at the moment -- which could be good news for all of us.

A few weeks ago, Beck urged his conservative Christian followers to pray for his protection. "There is (billionaire George) Soros money now being funneled to stop me. The biggest names, the most powerful people on the planet on the left -- I've told you before, they're not going to go away easy . . . Please, keep me in your prayers, keep my staff in your prayers, for safety, for wisdom, please."

Meanwhile, over on the left, Jim Wallis is asking his fellow progressive Christians to pray for Beck. "It should be no surprise that we strongly disagree with many of Glenn's views, but we too believe in a God far greater than all of us. So on this point, let's take Glenn at his word and pray for him to have wisdom as he speaks out on these issues. Tell Glenn you're praying for him - that he'll choose hope over fear."

So maybe neither of those prayer requests are purely nonpartisan. But it does show that Red State Christians and Blue State Christians at least can pray for the same person, if not for the same reasons. That's progress, right? The culture war-weary among us appreciate any sign of progress among the faithful, especially after reading the new 2009 Religious Activists Survey, which shows just how deeply and fundamentally divided religious activists are in this country.

Here are just a few of the lowlights in the survey of 3,000 conservative and progressive religious activists.

Prayers for Glenn Beck, as requested in FRmail..........and I AGREE with.....

Glenn Beck is doing very dangerous work. Darkness doesn’t like sunlight. Please join me in praying for the following specific things.

- physical safety of Glenn, his family, and employees
- courage, strength, and perseverance for Glenn and his employees
- viewer, listener, and sponsor support for Glenn’s radio and tv shows (so the opposition cannot shut him up)
- accurate information and extensive resources for Glenn’s research
- decisive action from conservative politicians and law enforcement resulting from Glenn’s research

Thanks,

If you would like to be added to this little Prayer Ping List, please FReepmail me.

While you’re at it, how about pray to throw a monkey wrench into the commie FCC czar’s plans to eliminate talk radio?

“No, when I ask for prayers I mean just that. I am asking Christian brothers and sisters to go before the Throne of the Most High God on my behalf, as I gladly do for them.”

I never said that wasn’t what Beck was doing. Surely, it was. All I said was that to a lot of nonbelievers, it sounds strange, whereas for religious people, it’s rather commonplace.

“If I mean wish me luck, that is what I say.”

Yes, but I bring up “wish me good luck” not to say that it is in every way the same as “pray for me,” but to compare it to prayer by illustrating how conventional each phrase is to the respective groups (i.e. believers and nonbelievers). Nonbelievers don’t really believe in fortune. Not as a positive force, anywar. But hearing someone wish another good luck doesn’t sound strange, because they hear it all the time. Likewise, hearing “pray for me” wouldn’t sound so strange if they heard it as often as believers do.

Oh, they won't kill him. Too messy.

I suspect, however, that Mr. Beck's federal income tax returns are getting some thoro' scrutiny these days.

Someday soon, we might turn on CNN and see federal blackshirts with "IRS" on their ballistics carrying boxes of papers out of Mr. Beck's "compound". Every news camera in midtown Manhattan will be rolling as he's perp-walked in shackles from his Radio City studio into the back of a paddy wagon, a burly Treasury department ninja at each arm. I can almost hear the VO now: "Beck, a recovering alcoholic with a history of mental illness and a self-described 'devout Mormon' was arrested today in New York on charges of federal tax evasion, conspiracy, and money-laundering. Beck's top-rated television show on the FOX News Channel and his many books have netted a fortune for the Right-wing crusader over the past several years."

Or maybe they'll just "discover evidence" that he's into kiddie porn. They'll eventually have to drop the charges, but by then the damage will have been done. Once accused, forever guilty.

Or they might just put a bullet through his wife's head, Randy Weaver-style. You just never know when you're dealing with the Powers That Be.

Wow - he was president of his university’s SDS chapter?!

(He looks like the quasi-Sean Connery on SNL’s Jeopardy skit.)

Please continue to pray for Glenn and for his salvation (He is a Mormon who has a zeal for God, but not according to wisdom. He needs to come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Word of God.).”

Many roads, one journey.

There are not "many roads", or many ways to get to God and heaven, there is only ONE road and ONE exclusive way to get to heaven.

Jesus Christ states in no uncertain terms: "Iam THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE, NO ONE comes to the Father, except THROUGH ME." (John 14:6)

It's fun to talk tough on the internet, but if you try that "goin' huntin'" jazz in real life they'll grease you in a parking garage and no one will ever know.

With all due respect, which isn't much, you have no idea who I am, where I've been, what I've taken part in, or what I'm capable of.

I've had people try to "grease me", and yet here I sit, healthy and alive enough to waste time chatting with you.

You may sit on the sidelines as the Constitution and its champions are snuffed out, but fortunately, not all patriots are couch critics who inaccurately ascribe their own level of inaction and bed-wetting cowardice to everyone else.

Have a great weekend, stud.

Not to say Beck wasn’t serious,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Beck was being flat out **serious**!

While I agree that many tritely use the expression, “Pray for me.”, Beck isn't one of them.

I was in a hotel Rush was staying in, and his bodyguards even went into the restroom with him. Yet he keeps all this very quiet and never makes it an issue. I’m sure Glenn Beck has similar security.

Yes, I’m very well aware of what the Christian faith teaches and what those of us who choose to follow it’s road believe.
