This raises some interesting questions. Does Obama back a primary challenger to Paterson, such as Andrew Cuomo? If he does, will the rest of the New York Democrats line up behind Obama’s pick?

Presidents do things like this all the time, but Obama goofed big time by letting this go public without any plausible deniability, especially since I don’t think he can count on uniform support from New York Democrats. Now he faces the choice of starting an intra-Party fight in one of the most important blue states (and potentially handing the New York governor ship over to a Republican), or backing down and looking weak at a time when there are a lot of questions are emerging about Obama’s influence in his own party.

I wonder if this makes it more likely that Rudy will run. If he does, will Lazio stay in?

Wait a second - we’ve got some half-white guy telling a black guy he shouldn’t be running for governor? Quick, somebody tell Jimmy Carter - wouldn’t that be ipso facto racism?

This guy is blind in more ways than one.

As if he would ever have gotten anywhere near the Governors mansion if it wasn't for the PC pick by that scumbag Spitzer who wanted to make sure his Lt. Gov wasn't a threat.

In the end it doesn't matter who wins the seat, NY is still going to be a giant failed socialist state populated by apparatchiks that feed off taxpayers that don't have enough sense to move to the real USA (whats left of it).

Actually, this is a screen pass against Her Royal Thighness who wants to run for Gubbbenor and then run against BO-mbo in 12. BO-mbadier doesn’t want to give her the chance, wants a loyal Acoloyte Cuomo to run....and win. Rudy better decide quick, he will be the game changer.

So then we can can count on Zero to not seek a second term when his own political standing is in tatters? That was an incredibly stupid thing to do given that not even presidents have a crystal ball.

Obama had sent a request to Mr. Paterson that he withdraw from the New York governor’s race, fearing that Mr. Paterson cannot recover from his dismal political standing,

Be more specific. Is he worried that Paterson can't recover from Paterson's dismal political standing or Obama's dismal political standing?

Since when do New Yorker's give a damn about a pollutition's political standing?

You know, I kinda feel sorry for the governor. obamma has abandoned him, so I would give him my vote, just to spite obamma, if I had one to give him.

Even though Patterson may be the worst governor since Dinkens, I admire him for standing up to the Socialist Messiah.

Dinkins was the Mayor not the governor.

Oh this kerfuffle will just gin up the press and under-dog status for Patterson.

Then there will be the usual “misinformation” that Obama was not involved in the decision. Blah Blah Blah.
