Paterson Says He Will Run Despite White House Pressure
New York Times ^ | September 20, 2009 | Raymond Hernandez and Jeff Zeleny

Gov. David A. Paterson defiantly vowed to run for election next year despite the White House‘s urging that he withdraw from the New York governor’s race.

Appearing tired and agitated as reporters crowded him at a parade in Harlem on Sunday, the governor said that he would not abandon his campaign to seek a full term.

“I have said time and time again that I am running for governor next year,” he said at the 40th annual African-American Day Parade.

Mr. Paterson would not characterize what he was told by the White House, saying that he would not “discuss confidential conversations.”

“I’m not talking about any specific conversations,” he said. “As I said, I am running for office.”

President Obama had sent a request to Mr. Paterson that he withdraw from the New York governor’s race, fearing that Mr. Paterson cannot recover from his dismal political standing, according to two senior administration officials and a New York Democratic operative with direct knowledge of the situation.

The decision to ask Mr. Paterson to step aside was proposed by political advisers to Mr. Obama, but approved by the president himself, one of the administration officials said.

“Is there concern about the situation in New York? Absolutely,” the second administration official said Saturday evening. “Has that concern been conveyed to the governor? Yes.”

The administration officials and the Democratic operative spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions with the governor were intended to be confidential.

The president’s request was conveyed to the Mr. Paterson by Representative Gregory W. Meeks, a Queens Democrat, who has developed a strong relationship with the Obama administration, they said.

Where is the popcorn animation?

Even black liberal Democrats from blue states are not following Obama's orders.

I am not surprised that Obama wants Paterson to step down, since Cuomo would be a better candidate for the Dems, but it seems odd for Obama to get involved so publicly. This has Rahm Emanuel's fingerprints. Can we call foul-mouthed, wanna-be tough guy Rahm "the cursing ballerina"?

I wont put the blame all on rahm because obama can also be a control freak and has been proven to be a maniacal person willing to do anything in order to get his way. The same can be said about axelrod.

Gov. David A. Paterson will probably get reelected and President Obama won't.

What is O’s reason for not wanting him to run?
Something devious maybe? A favor owed to Hiltery?

Paterson should not put up with this crap from the white, leftist racists. He needs to run and win.

Amazing. Obama thinks he can call up states and tell people who needs to not run in which races? He is a totalitarian, and will go the Hugo route until he is stopped cold. Probably by his own party, they can see the 2010 disaster looming for them.

Uh, one t. Paterson. I made the same mistake. Does that make me racist? Does misspelling his name make you racist?

Good for you Governor. It’s not often you get to tell the POTUS to go screw off.

I am still a registered Democrat in my home state, me thinks I will go to my local ACORN office and ask them to instruct me on how to vote a half dozen times for Mr. Patterson. Should I wear my pimp costume to add to my credibility?

Even though Patterson may be the worst governor since Dinkens, I admire him for standing up to the Socialist Messiah.

He probably has someone else in mind to install in the governor’s chair. He just can’t outright put the seat up for sale like he did in Chicago.

Patterson had no chance of winning before, but if he’s opposing Bambi, he might. Remember when JJ (Jesse Jackson) said he wanted to rip Obama’s n*tz off?

That was because Obama was intruding on black Dem territory and his white handlers had enabled this. There are a lot of lousy black Dem pols that I completely despise — but who are PO’ed at having this foreign born half-white Muslim Marxist take over their show.
