Steve Milloys "junk science" detector started running high when he got hold of a new study in the American Journal of Public Health claiming nearly 45,000 Americans die from a lack of health insurance.
According to the study, titled "Health Insurance and Mortality in U.S. Adults," working-age Americans without insurance have a 40 percent higher risk of death than their privately insured counterparts. It also includes a chart showing how many people have died state by state, supposedly because of lack of insurance. For example, researchers say 4,675 Texas have died because they didnt have insurance during their study period.
Mr. Milloy, founder and publisher of Junkscience.com and co-founder and portfolio manger for the Free Enterprise Fund, said the study was created to boost President Obamas health care agenda. Mr. Milloy reminded that Mr. Obama recently told Congress people would die if they didnt have insurance.

"They are trying to create these factoids that they can beat opponents over the head with," Mr. Milloy said. "They interviewed 9,000 people between 1988 and 1994 and asked, 'Do you have health insurance?' and if you die at some point in the future, they assume your death was caused by the fact you didnt have insurance during that time you were interviewed."
"That kind of stuff is classic junk science," Mr. Milloy added
John C. Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, agreed that the study was flawed. The subjects were interviewed only once and the study tries to link their insurance status at that time to mortality a decade later. Yet over the period, the authors have no idea whether subjects were insured or uninsured, what kind of medical care they received, or even cause of death, he said in a statement.

If we had nationalized health care 450,000 would have died.
When I taught HS biology, I tried at every opportunity to impress on my students what was required to design a good study or experiment.

Same here.
GIGO, the new definition - Gargage in/gospel Out if it comes from a computer. People don’t understand the premise, or the program, just believe the output.
They completely made up the statics for the number of deaths from back street abortions..
Causes range from second-hand smoke to being mauled by polar bears fleeing melting ice sheets, but can be attributed to one underlying cause: Lack of government supervision.
If you don't demand new taxes on yourself, and more government at every level, you are complicit in nearly 150,000 deaths every day, and you are a right wing extremist who is one step away from being Tim McVeigh.
You are also probably a homophobic brute. And a racist.
Exactly. BTW I don’t believe your numbers. ;)
I think if you don’t feel like that about kids you probably don’t last long in the business.
LOL
You can multiply the number of deaths by the uninsured by at least a thousand, and that will give you the number of deaths on the part of people waiting for a doctor’s appointment under the Obama so-called “health” plan.
I don’t know if they ever really got it, but maybe at some time it will come back to them.
So true. And even if you do it seems like just about every teacher burns out in 15 years or less and only a few tough cookies who started teaching young make it through the burnout phase to continue teaching until retirement.
Wow.
Anybody with an IQ above room temperature would have to laugh at this ridiculous claim.
I would have taught longer if we had stayed in TX, but I don’t want to teach high school here in Palm Beach County. Of course, I was also older when I started teaching, had already raised my own kids.
Personally I think it would be great for schools if there were programs to get professionals from other walks of life into the classrooms for a few years and then out. They would not get burned out and they would bring real life experiences to the job.
From observation i can say with 99.9% assurance that Obama is an “Influencer” that controls people(its what drives their ego) by lying. they are very skillful at it. Some of his other traits is that they look good (good hair) and are fun to have a beer with. Just don't work for one, as they are poor alligator's and want to control your every action.
Interesting. I always find the psychology behind people to be fascinating.
I tend to think that particular event won’t happen for, oh..about 400 years from now.
Guess I’m an optimist. :P
It seems to me the only correlation made by this study would be: 40% of the people they polled from 1988 to 1994 died from taking another stupid poll.
