WASHINGTON A federal judge has denied the request for a new trial by a former Louisiana congressman convicted on corruption charges.
U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III ruled against a motion by former Rep. William Jefferson on Friday in Alexandria, Va. Jefferson was convicted Aug. 5 on 11 of 16 federal counts for using his influence to broker business deals in Africa after federal agents found cash in his freezer.

We need to hear words like “30 years to life.”
Holder’s probably working on a pardon for Obama to sign!
Excellent! Willie Jeff is going to get free room and board for awhile.
rush
So an FBI agent nailed somebody and THAT made you a thief??!! Well NOW it’s clear to me.
Think 20 yrs - that’s just a tick longer than he was a U.S. Congresscritter and would be most appropriate.
No mention of party in title, subtitle, first sentence, or first paragraph...therefore its a democrat.
If Obama goes down in 2012 look for select criminals such as Me. Jefferson to receive a pardon.
The list of his last minute pardons will be very interesting to behold.
Does he lose his Congressional pension?
He will rise through the ranks of the democrat party, now that he’s qualified.
That should happen after his sentencing , knowing pelosi, who knows.
Not the whole story. A victim of Jefferson's shake down went to the FBI. They gave her $100,000 and said to go back and pay the bribe. The $90,000 found in the freezer was the FBI cash (serial numbers recorded.)
Cash in your freezer is suspicious. FBI cash in your freezer is an open and shut case.
My guess?...He had a room full of clerks preparing forms 24 hours after he took office.....they are working overtime and probably will not be able to pardon everyone by the time he leaves office.....notice how I phrased that.
Thanks for your response.
