ARLINGTON, Va. - There's a new turn in the debate over high occupancy toll lanes or HOT lanes.
A lawsuit filed by Arlington County last month claims the lanes benefit wealthy white people and discriminates against minorities. While the only rule to get in the HOV lanes on Interstate 395 is you must have three people in the car, Arlington claims adding HOT lanes would cut out poor and minorities by defacto.

I remember years ago, some black activists charged that freeways from suburbs into cities were “white men’s roads through black men’s homes”, as they opposed interstate highways being built in some cities.
If “racist” means “bad”, then that’s what HOT lanes and HOV lanes are ... I hate ‘em.
You know what is freaking racist????? It’s assuming that the poor and the downtrodden MUST be minorities!

I don’t understand. Setting up a HOT lane for three in a car enables whites to drive unimpeded?
Wealth means you can drive in a single occupancy vehicle, OK, because whites never carpool to save gas, but minorities, women, and poor people always carpool...

This can’t continue- now that we have a half-black president, it seems to have stirred up all the racers with this illogical stuff.
HOT lanes should be banned, regardless of the reason:
A) everyone’s money is used to build the roads, equally, so why can’t everyone use every lane?
B) If a HOT lane is not being used to full capacity when other lanes are, this is a wildly inefficient use of the roadways and only creates more gridlock than it reduces.
Now THAT is funny. The Leftards in the People’s Republic of Arlington accusing the Leftards in the People Republic of Fairfax County of being racist. But I have a solution. Assign a team of observers to count the number of caucasians, asians, Hispanics, blacks, native Americans and polynesians driving in the toll lanes. If it turns out that yes, the toll lanes are racist, give the injured minorities free passes. In exchange, the minorities, Arlington and Fairfax all have to swear to STFU ABOUT RACISM UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

True. But Arlington Co. is 80% white. 'White guilt' runs rampant there.
I've commuted to work in that corridor for almost 20 years. If they think that only rich, white people will use the HOT lanes, they are simply and profoundly dead wrong. But that never stopped a bleeding heart. :-)
