“41″, or John Cornyn Has To Go
Red State ^ | Tuesday, September 22nd | Erick Erickson

Posted on 09/23/2009 9:39:56 AM PDT by lqcincinnatus

This story looks like a local one on the surface, but has implications for Senate seats across the country. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) is manipulating the Senatorial primary process, and maneuvering to retain his own power in a minority party rather than trying to win a majority.

Cornyn was holding back money for Arlene Specter's relection, even after he had been sticking it to the Republican Party (or what is left of it). This is an example of how good men are poisoned by Washington and the corruption in both parties.

Cornyn is nothing but a RINO! He moved away from the conservative base of the GOP many years ago. As one of my current Senators, I can say that the day this A$$ and Kay Bailusout are no longer representing my state, I will be extremely happy (unless Mr. Slow himself, Mayor Bill White (Houston) is their replacement)!!

I will vote for the local dog catcher before I vote for this fool again!

Having dealt with the corruption in Houston’s City Hall, I hope it isn’t White.

Don’t worry. Come next election, Cornyn will put on his cowboy hat that he only wears during the election season (or TeaParty’s), and put out commercials with him riding a horse in some unknown W. Texas locale, as tumbleweeds roll by, and then he’ll end the commercial around a campfire cooking up some beans telling Texans to vote for him because he is a Conservative.

AND HE’LL GET RE-ELECTED!

COMPLETE FRAUD!

My wife, my mother (Pamlet), and myself went to DC to protest Porkulous with JimRob and and the DC Chapter. Cornyn is one of our Senators as well, and we were quite displeased by what he did during the Porkulous debacle. He voted against it when it was on the floor, but he was “not present” when the vote for cloture came on Monday of that week. (The cloture vote was the only possible way of stopping this abomination of a bill.)

When we approached his staff about this, they informed us he was “out of the office for the day.”

The largest single spending bill ever to come across the floor of the Senate, and he has more important things to do?? I don’t care if a child was being born, he represents millions of Americans and should have been there to attempt to stop the vote... unless of course... he wanted it to pass...

Yep, ol’ Bill is more of a tool than Obama!! As slow as Bill is, I know he has had a handler for years; otherwise, he would have been hit and killed by a runaway train or stampede of roaring elephants!!

As much as I hate hearing Obama speak, Bill is worse (he can’t even read a teleprompter)!

For votes of cloture, "not present" is a no vote. The only votes that matter on cloture are the "YES" votes, there must be 60 of them or cloture fails.

So be mad if you must, but not over this -- Cornyn's absenses was exactly like voting "no".

That’s just it, Cornyn wanted it to pass!

What gets me is the way these congress critters vote: they have “safe” members vote first so that as the end comes up, those not so safe can vote against something so they can go home and say, “See, I voted against XYX, so I am on your side!” Even though it was passed.

I think every vote should be done in alphabetical order, starting on a random letter for each vote. This way, no one can play stupid games like this.

It is like Barney Frank saying, “I voted to regulate Freddie and Fannie, but the Republicans couldn’t get it passed, so that is not my fault.” He excoriated the Republicans during the Committee and stood up for Freddie & Fannie; however, he knew the Republicans didn’t have enough votes to pass it in the full house, so he was safe to vote FOR it in Committee, but was “not present” for the House vote!!

I like John Cornyn and plan to vote for his re-election.

Of course I don’t agree with him on everything, but he’s a solid conservative and an independent thinker who tries to do the right thing.

You can’t say that about many people in Washington.

We are saddled right now with corrupt and evil leaders in our national government. John Cornyn is not one of them.

We need to be concentrating our efforts on removing the Democrats, not eating our own.

Flame on. I’m right about this.

And I am trying to tell EVERYONE that will listen that he is a RINO, past his prime and needs to be GONE!!!

This is a prime example of the Republican Party Elite ignoring the base - acting like they are not even aware of the huge pool opposition against Obama and the DemoRats... made up of a lot of people new to the system.

I guess these Repug elitist believe that the Tea Party Protesters and the Town Hall Protesters are just Card Carrying Republicans chomping at the bit to line up and vote for the Republican Party anointed liberal RINOs and DIRT bags. Well - they couldn’t be more wrong.

All over America, a mass of energized people at the Tea Parties, the March on DC and the Town Hall Meetings are actually Independents, individual Republicans and Democrats, Libertarians and other non affiliated folks...

By in large, most all are Conservatives to moderates - ... These folks are against Obama and the Reid/Pelosi leftist liberal thrust. This highly energize group is clamoring for common sense Conservatives and moderately Conservative candidates. They are not looking for more of the same hand picked (Democrat Lite / Liberal Lite) limited choices given out by the Republican Party.

The Republican Party never learns - they just listen to Democrat criticism and fall in line - so they will be loved by the media pundits.

Sorry, but I don’t agree with you and I am sure you are NOT “right on this.” He is in charge of the Republican Senate Committee, and without listening to the people of Florida, he has already started spending committee money to get Crist elected over Rubio - and we KNOW Crist is a RINO!

He supports McCain - the KING of RINO’s! You cannot be a conservative and support these people that are dragging America down a socialist path!

Cornyn needs to be GONE! Just for the record, they ALL need to be GONE! If we re-elect any sitting member of Congress, then we might as well start acting like the Communist nation that we are soon to become!

Sorry, Jedidah, you are wrong. Last cycle I got a call asking me if I could find a bunch of pump jacks for background in an ad he wanted to produce. It was the first time he’d ever seen one.

The only reason he is a Senator is because KR called Senator PG and asked him to resign early so W could appoint a Senator to run as an sitting office holder. PG asked who he was going to appoint. It was Tony Garza. PB told him hell no, he would only support Henry Bonilla. In the fuss, Cornyn saw a void and announced for Senate.

Remember, he was the Texas Supreme that fathered the Robin Hood decision that steals money from “rich” school districts to fund “poor” school districts. No Conservative in my mind.

Then Bill White or Chris Bell is what you're likely to get. I'll vote for Cornyn because he will be better than the 'rat alternative. Maybe not a lot better, but better. At least he opposes the 'rat Health Death Care bill.

At this point and time, I don’t know who will be running when his seat comes up in 2014. I can only hope and pray that we have some new true conservative people running for higher offices by then.

Cornyn used to be a conservative, but he has let the beltway cloud his views on things and he tries to play too many of the Washington games and he ends up looking the fool for doing it! It is an old, but very accurate saying: lie down with dogs and you get up with fleas!

Absolutely no “conservative” would have voted for the bailout that Bush/Paulson put together last year, and both my sellout RINO’s did! They MUST go!

I am tired of being told I have no choice in my vote. You are correct in your statement, but I resent the fact.

The alternative is to Tea Party him and hold him accountable. In fact, I will save this blog today and fax it to his office tonight.

[...because he will be better than the ‘rat alternative.]

That is the same reason Bush was elected TWICE: most people voted against the idiots the Rats put up, instead of for Democrat-Lite Bush! The only thing Bush was conservative on was foreign policy (and I appreciate him for that), but everything else he was a DEMOCRAT! He didn’t know how to say “NO” to my money!

If we get into the mode of “better this than that” you loose your base and the independents because NO ONE knows where you stand!

Trying to hold on to power in the US is like squeezing sand - the harder you squeeze, the more it falls through your fingers. Let’s not worry about holding on to what we have; let’s LEAD our nation, people and the human experiment FORWARD!

That is the million dollar question: whom is to run?

My daughters like my political views (they love arguing with their teachers - with facts & winning), and my thirteen year old asked why I don’t run for elected office. And I have talked to my wife about that very idea.

Mine is a hard-working, lower middle class (sometimes poor) family. I have family members that have spent time in prison. I had to file bankruptcy (for two failed businesses). We live paycheck to paycheck sometimes - depending on what goes wrong on my vehicles or if the refrigerator goes out, etc...

And although I KNOW my conservative views are what have gotten me through my life thus far, the media and rats (and even repugs) would excoriate me and my family! We would be dragged through the mud till it was coming out my ears! So, who is willing to go through this, even if it is for the betterment?

I am still considering running for local office (especially the local school board - we are going round and round), but really, who is willing to run? I don’t know, but we had better find them!

Yea!!!! Let’s increase the Democrat majority. That’ll teach us.

Let’s say John Cornyn is on the right side of issues 80% of the time. Are you saying it is better to have him replaced by someone who is wrong on the issues 90% of the time?

Many knuckleheads on FR couldn’t wait to jetison Ted Stevens, who was later found to be the victim of egregious prosecutorial misconduct, how’s that working out? His replacement is an Obama rubber-stamp, something Stevens would have NEVER been.

[Yea!!!! Let’s increase the Democrat majority. That’ll teach us.]

Thank you for making my point (see our current Administration)!

We didn’t get here just because of Bush - did you forget that these RINO’s were in charge for six of Bushes eight years. Have things gotten worse (at a faster pace) in the last two or three, sure, but we didn’t wake up here - we drove this bus too and we didn’t make the turns that we needed to make.

We kept saying, well at least this guy is not that guy. And finally, the rats put up someone with an edge, with a “new” message and he could read real well and then it all came to a crescendo!

It takes a Carter to get a Reagan! I can only hope that this really bad experiment with Obama resonates all the way down to Congress too (Carter certainly didn’t)! Maybe with the Tea Parties and the protests, the American people will wake up and stop “settling” for our candidates.

We shouldn’t have to settle for someone who wants the job - I think we should be deciding who WE want to have the job! Half the original Continental Congress had to be BEGGED and goaded into taking the job; most thought they were nothing special, their constituents saw something special in them!! Of course the threat of death for treason could have been a significant cause for resistance as well, Ha/Ha!

I was going to vote for Cornyn. I wrote him, faxed him and emailed him that if he voted for that POS bill, I would never vote for him and I would do everything to get everyone I know not to vote for him. So, I did NOT vote for him; I didn’t vote for anyone in that race.

His “response” was a form letter about how it seemed we had an “immediate need for action” and he was doing what Bush said was good (throw Bush under the bus)! As I always say, if a company is run like crap, it should and will fail - I know (I lost two). The US gov’t should NOT bailout anyone!

I told everyone that once you bailout one company, where do you stop? You see where we are now don’t you?

Yes, but you must remember what Rush calls incrementalism. The 'rats are masters of incrementalism. They are patient and will take one grain of sand at a time until they have the whole sandbox. Guys like you who want "the whole sandbox or nothing" will likely end up with nothing.

I already told you Cornyn (and Kay B) oppose the health care bill. If White were in, he'd surely vote for it, as would any other 'rat. Hell, yes I'll vote for Cornyn over a 'rat. He may be a RINO, but at least he's not Arlen Sphincter.

If we lose the healthcare battle, the Republic will be in grave peril. A vote from a Cornyn can stave off disaster. An "I'll show 'em!" vote for a 'rat will be a vote for socialism, which once in place, will never go away.

[Guys like you who want “the whole sandbox or nothing” will likely end up with nothing.]

You obviously didn’t read most of my posts. I am not “an all or nothing” guy. I am a “we can do better than this and we should try” guy!

Am I happy that Cornyn is there right now and Bill White is in Houston - ABSOLUTELY! However, when election time comes, I am not going to say, “Oh, at least he is a Republican so we don’t need to look for a better candidate!” BS - every election cycle we should be looking for the best conservative candidate available! Period!

Are Cornyn and Kay against health care reform or are they just against Obama’s health care reform? I do not want ANY reform that does not include detailed, comprehensive tort reform! I do not want ANY reform that includes ANY government run option, co-op or mandated insurance coverage (talk about incrementalism)! Where do they stand on this? Who the HE!! knows? The Republicans are NOT leading (as I stated in other posts), they ARE the party of NO! They should spend some of the precious Specter money to put commercials on stating THEIR plans (because the MSM isn’t going to cover them)! They need to LEAD us away from the government trough, not make the water taste better for the other 48% of the electorate!

As far as I am concerned, Cornyn is NOT correct 80% of the time. After the bailout debacle I see him as a correct 50% of the time; on the bailout he was 100% WRONG!! We can not afford to continue to do this to OURSELVES; THIS (my Republican is okay, yours is the problem) theory is what is giving the rats one grain at a time! Think about it!

It will take nothing short of a miracle for ANYONE to convince me to vote for a man that helped to indebt my unborn-grandkids!
