Obama: U.S. Does Not Recognize 'Legitimacy of Continued Israeli Settlements'

In declaring that it is time for Middle East peace "without preconditions," President Obama used his speech to the U.N. General Assembly Wednesday to fire a warning at Israel that "America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements."

Obama's stark declaration, which drew applause, was coupled with a call for Palestinians to end their "incitement of Israel."

But it was the use of the U.N. forum to carry the settlement message to Israel that drew the most enthusiastic response on the floor -- and incredulous reaction outside its walls.

Obama just put Israel "on the chopping block," said former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton.

Obama said he met Tuesday with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was not in attendance at the speech, and agreed that the two have made some progress in both strengthening security and facilitating freedom of movement, which have allowed the economy in the West Bank to grow.

But more progress is needed, he said.

"After all - they don’t want anyone to accuse them of being racists."

That's a good point. We saw during the Dem primary that racial preference trumped gender preference in a BIG way. Many in the press could have been mistaken for Bob Packwood in the way they treated Hilary.

Think of all the feminists "icons" that jumped off the Hilary ship to march in Barry's parade - not the least conspicuous of which was Oprah herself. Black beats all, apparently.

I heard a great explanation for why Jews are historically liberal in the USA...it’s because the right is historically Christian and the Jews are afraid of becomming Christians. Makes sense. They are siding with the wrong side, however.

If given the orders to install Manuel Zelaya as dictator for life in Honduras, would the US Military let that happen? Would they obey the orders of Obama to overthrow the constitutional government of Honduras and install Zelaya or would they remove Obama?

That sort of an order would be harder to avoid. The military can delay carrying out an order they don't like, but they will eventually have to do it. Intervention in Honduras is not time sensitive. Delaying it for a few days or even a couple of weeks doesn't change the situation.

In contrast delaying the launch of fighters by 5 minutes can be enough to prevent an interception. Especially if the AWACAS crew give an intercept vector as few as 3 degrees off or the interceptor pilots get "Lost".

It is easy to court marshal a general for something he did. It is difficult to court marshal someone for something that he didn't do, especially if he has a plausible excuse.

I don’t think there will EVER be a military coup unless or until MOST Americans rise up in defiance first. So, no. The military would not, on their own and by themselves, attempt a coup. We have to first show them what is in our hearts and minds, that we are with them 100%.

I feel like there is a timebomb ticking away or counting down to Zero....literally.

I hope the Israelis (and Hondurans) care as little about obama's opinions as real Americans do. I'm more concerned with the legitimacy and patriotism (or lack thereof) of the person occupying our White House than with anything else.

Yes I agree. It is very weird that American Jewry, actually supports the premise of the distruction of Israel.
Talk about self-hatred. This is outragous.

I think there is overwhelming support for Israel in the US Congress and among the American people. Enough support on both sides of the aisle to stop any outrageous decisions Obama might make.

I pray you are right. A gauge of Congressional support for Israel will be reflected in what senators and congressman have to say (if anything) about what Obama said today at the U.N.

O is doing exactly what the Bible said would happen in the last days. Still, I just cannot believe what I am reading and hearing. He’s singlehandedly bringing down the Wrath of God on this nation.

Yes...just AS a lot of people call themselves Christians, yet are anything but...a lot of Jews are not Jews in reality, but a satanic fascade. That would explain how they could vote for and support the very demons that work, in conjunction with the extremist Arabs, towards Israel’s total destruction.

You are so right about hitlery. Having said that, what the bam did at the UN this morning was beneath contempt. It was treason on a par I have never, ever seen in my lifetime, and worse than any tin god dictator, including the madman homodinejad.

WORSE because from a country like the United States, you expect sanity. No president, including Jimmah Cahtah, ever denigrated the United States at the UN in front of all of our enemies, and in the faces of all of our allies who must have been crapping in their pants listening to this.

The camera people were ordered to NOT pan the audience while bam was speaking. They were not allowed to take the camera off him while he was speaking, so we were not allowed to see reaction from world leaders who were present. I will wager there was absolute shock rippling through that chamber.

This man has invited hell itself into this country by his words and by his deeds. And it IS coming.

It is starting to look as though we had all better read ‘Revelations’ and get right with the ‘One True GOD.

"Holy Communion is the shortest and the safest way to Heaven. There are others: Innocence, for instance, but that is for little children. Penance, but we are afraid of it. Generous endurance of the trials of life, but when they come we weep and ask to be spared. The surest, easiest, shortest way is by the Eucharist" -St. Pius X.

According to St. Pius X, getting right with God can be done through the Holy Eucharist. And you can do so daily. You needn't wait until Sunday!

The explanation I've been told is that when first coming to this country they encountered a lot of prejudice and as they became successful were excluded from the "trappings" of that success by conservative WASP's. Unfortunately, they don't realize that the Evangelical Christians are not the conservatives of old.

It would be interesting to know how many people who call themselves Jews follow the Torah,or in other words,Jews as defined by their commitment to God and then look at how many are basing their Jewishness on identifying with a tribe or brotherhood which ignores the religious aspect of the term.

It might be that the second category are secular humanists and consequently are only interested in a President of the United States who promotes a political ideology that allows for government control of human beings. This would call for a more Marxist, socialist leader and President Obama would most likely appeal to them.

President Obama used his speech to the U.N. General Assembly Wednesday to fire a warning at Israel that "America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements."

Obama's warped perspective is hardly news - from what I can tell, Obama also does not accept the legitimacy of the Gadsden Purchase, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the Louisiana Purchase, the Texas Revolution, and the like, and so I expect him to soon issue a decree prohibiting further American settlements in those areas, so that he can get another congratulatory letter from Fidel Castro along with another round of applause from the United Nations...

Yes, I agree with all you've said. I would add that I wouldn't put what Obama has done past Hilary. Bill was never that stupid, but Hilary is no Bill Clinton. And, one need look no further than Hilary's comments a few months ago in Africa, that compared the unusual US election events of 2000 to the problems that are seen in third-world countries, and intimating that Jeb Bush "stole" the election for his brother. It was absolutely shameful, and possibly without precedent for a sitting US Secretary of State.

I personally don't think that there's much substantive difference between Obama and Hilary on any issue, including foreign policy. They only real difference, as others have pointed out, is one of style and personal character (character in the theatrical sense). Hilary doesn't posses the charisma of Obama, and therefore doesn't enjoy the same blind obedience, or cult-of-personality which makes Obama that much more corrosive to American interests.

I personally know more pro-Israel Christians than pro-Israel Jews. It is weird.

Same here. My Pastor has made it clear that he is an ardent supporter of Israel, and most of us agree with him.
