WASHINGTON (AP) - The FBI is investigating the hanging death of a U.S. Census worker near a Kentucky cemetery. A law enforcement official says the word "fed" was scrawled on his chest.

The body of Bill Sparkman, a 51-year-old Census field worker and occasional teacher, was found Sept. 12 in the Daniel Boone National Forest in rural southeast Kentucky.

Investigators have said little about the case.

I’m saying pot growers. Anybody who has ever been in the woods of Northern California knows that the most dangerous place in the world is somebody’s marijuana plantation. A lot of them are run by outlaw biker gangs, and others are run by crazy free-lance criminals who shouldn’t even be out of jail.

I had a friend who was a state policeman and he didn’t even dare to go up there unaccompanied for routine police business. I would assume this forest in Kentucky is the same. It’s probably in a remote area where the only law enforcement is either the sheriffs or the state police (meaning they don’t come by very often) and this poor guy just turned up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

When Kentucky was first settled by farmers who had worn out their land in the East in the late 1700s, the principle crop was corn, and the only economical way to haul the corn back East was by turning it into corn whiskey, which they became famous for. The government lost so many tax men that they quit sending them out. I suppose that the mistrust of the “feds” is deeply ingrained in the population after a couple of centuries.

They've already finished with that step. They sent out 100,000 workers who visted every house, and entered the data into the Census dat base.

They have the GPS co-ordinates for every front door in the United States.

All of the prep work is NOT a "one-step" procedure. There are numerous phases before the actual count next year. I don't know if this guy was part of what is called the "Group Quarters" operation, but that is one phase that the USCB is doing right now. This phase does NOT use any devices to enter GPS data.

Sounds like they did not like him!

Ya think? Drug dealers and growers hate uninvited company, especially if they are wearing a government ID badge.

First it was a wise crack, but seeing how you want to be a snit, okay, it depends on how much some POS insists on resisting. Of course lynching does create some problems beyond just shooting... I have never gotten into the sport, but it seems to me that lynching would be too much work and take much of the fun out of it. Now if you don't mind, I'm going back under the house to finish burying a few more bodies.

Is this a legitimate question to ask....

Where does "ELF" get their money? Pot growing perhaps?

We could presume whomever did this is someone with mental health problems, bikers, etc.... The media might blame conservatives.

But what if the druggies are not the traditional molds mentioned, could ACORN or ELF be in this "trade???

Also southeast kentucky didn’t like the confederacy much after they were invaded and had they’re homes and farms looted and burnt by raiders. My family split over some of them raiding into the area, and weren’t welcome home after the war.

She asked if she could take her dog and carry a gun and they said no.

She should not have asked. It is better to ask forgiveness then ask permission.
