U.S. Protests Russian 'Sex Tape' Used to Smear American Diplomat

The U.S. Ambassador in Moscow has lodged a formal protest with the Russian Foreign Ministry over an "attempted smear" of an American diplomat with a purported sex video recorded in a Moscow hotel room.

"This kind of effort to discredit an American diplomat really has no place in the sort of relationship that we are trying to build with the Russian federation," Ambassador John Beyrle told ABC News in an interview to be broadcast tonight on World News with Charles Gibson and Nightline.

American officials say the Russian intelligence agency that replaced the KGB, the Federal Security Service (FSB), produced the video in an attempt to either recruit or discredit the diplomat, Brendan Kyle Hatcher, a 34-year-old married State Department employee who serves as a liaison with religious and human rights groups in Russia.

As recently as this summer, Hatcher attended a meeting with Ambassador Beyrle with the Russian Patriarch Metropolitan Kiril.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Putin has tapes of Obama and Larry Sinclair and Donald Young (RIP), as well as an original birth certificate.

yea, the nerve of those Ruskies spying on, and producing a sex tape of a Democrat having a good time with hookers, paid for by American taxpayers, especially when the Democrat was there in "good faith" trying to make a few bucks for himself while selling out the nations secrets...

"All I saw was a typical man-woman relationship. So what?"

Well, if it wasn't his wife, would his wife say "so what"?

Any woman *I* marry will have to put up with an endless line of second-stringers.

Attention Obama Appointees!!

If you are going to Russia for any amount of time please be advised that your every move and word is being monitored. There is a reason you had to produce two copies of photo identification, one for customs and one for THE KGB!!! That's because the KGB is still alive and well, no matter what anybody says!!

Idiots!!

Some of those Russian babes are quite beautiful considering it is cold as hell there 3/4ths of the year.

The Obama administration will probably counter this by insisting that all diplomats in the future be homosexual. That way, if the Russians want to tape them, it won’t be scandalous because nobody will want to watch.

If he did it, then fire him and send him home before he is completely compromised and hurts our nation.

Why??? If he is effective in what he does, and he seems to have been because that is an alternative theory of why the Russians want him gone, then he has already been immunized against such tactics. Now he can get on about his business.

If you want to take a strict uncompromising moral position shouldn't that be between him and his family? Contrary to simplistic thinking and moralizing, his cheating on his wife is not a good indicator as to his general moral character.

Actually...it is. He made a commitment to his wife. If he wants to retain his good moral character, then divorce her before engaging in such behavior. This is a very basic thing. Marital vows are fundamental vows and mean something...both morally and legally.

If we cannot see that an individual who is able to be seduced into compromising positions which are being filmed by a foreign power's security service is part and parcel to being compromised...then we have lost sight, IMHO, about what being compromiosed means.

I stand by my own assertions. You may disagree...and that is fine.

Our disagreement is with individual values. I agree with the strict morality of it all but I disagree that all individuals are that way. Depending on the personal relationships with wives and based on other basic moral principles, i.e. loyalty to country, with some the loyalty to country supersedes commitment to wife. With some it is a macho thing.

Therefore, if this diplomat is good at what he does and can be trusted with that, according to those who know him, recalling and firing him would be the wrong thing.

And I contend that if he would break that basic vow to his wife when he could come out honorably and end the relationship before starting up an affair, then he would also be much more apt to be a security risk with other vows.

In fact, if unwilling to break that relationshiop off because of embarassement, or other reason, then his risk is increased because whatever it was could then be used against him by a foreign power as a point of leverage.

Which is not uncommon.

Just the Russians using their tried and true method of snaring foreigners.

The KGB perfected this kind of stuff, and many of those folks now make up the SVO...

At times I think the insistence on “being purer than Caesar’s wife” works against us.
