How could any male in the Republic of Korea have no military background? Are they in a wheelchair or iron lung? The enlisted men I worked with at I Corps at Camp Red Cloud (1978-79, not KATUSAs, ROK soldiers) were the equivelant of Harvard, Yale and Princeton grads here, yet they were conscripts.
There will be NO WAR. There is too much at stake. In time North Korea will join the south just as East Germany joined West Germany. All the nuke talk and rockets is only to get more free money and aid for the mis-managed Northern Peoples Republic. In time the Army will take over, and with China’s help, re-join the south. Why? Re-unification will mess up Korea for three decades as it did with Germany. This will knock South Korea back giving the economic edge to China. South Korea will have to feed and educate the North—re-build factories and infra-structure. Such a move would also make South Korea more friendly with Red China. Once again—think the Great Game and look beyond the talk.
