Three days after winning the presidential poll in Washington during a convention of Christian conservatives, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is backing away from committing himself to another run for the presidency.
Huckabee was in Texarkana Tuesday to support Prissy Hickerson for state representative.
Its too early to jump into the shark-infested waters right now. I enjoy what Im doing now and I will consider it in a year or a year and a half, Huckabee said. I would rather be successful now in framing issues in the media than being a candidate who couldnt take...

Jump, the starks need dinner!
Get off my TV also!
Keep backing away Mike.
Thank you
to all the retreads that ran in ‘08: stay away or you will contribute to obama’s reelection
2010?
Good, then don’t run
We don’t need Mike right now. We need a war time President because I believe that is were we are heading. We don’t need another President that has no understanding of the Military or the processing of a war.
not him again...
that’s what the newspaper headline said - perhaps that meant launching the campaign in 2010 for the 2012 election
- :) you indeed are quite observant!
I could not agree more.
I like Mike Huckabee. He’s articulate, knowledgeable, funny, personable, clever even wise on occasion: during the primary debates he consistently knocked answers out of the ballpark, (like the one he was asked on marriage by Fox’s Carl Cameron). He could run circles over Obama in a national debate. Mr. Teleprompter would recite a memorized script — Mike has it all in his head ahead of time. He is pro-life, pro Fair Tax (abolish the IRS!), pro-Israel, pro-military. He’d make a much better president than Obama any day.
There’s a reason Christian conservatives warm to him consistently, and there’s also a reason why here on Free Republic you have people who attack him (they support Romney instead).
I think a Palin, Huckabee or a Huckabee, Palin ticket would be fantastic.
I’ll go out on a limb and predict he is NOT going to run in 2012. Yes, he’s a front-runner, according to the polls, and he has grassroots support that is intense. But he isn’t faring that well in raising money and I doubt he’ll want to run another campaign on a shoe-string. It was fun the first time, when he didn’t stand a chance, but this time around, he’s a front-runner and the expectations are high. He’s not meeting those expectations, so I think he passes on 2012.
I doubt he thought it was “fun”. He’s often said running any campaign is grueling and exhausting. Why would he do it at his age unless he really wanted to make a positive difference for America? (i.e. promote the Fair Tax, which would abolish the IRS). The best way to undercut big government is with the Fair Tax, based on consumption of new goods, not income.
Theres a reason Christian conservatives warm to him consistently, and theres also a reason why here on Free Republic you have people who attack him (they support Romney instead).
For me it has nothing to do with religion. I don’t like the way he goes about attacking other Republicans. Stay away Mike. You are as bad as McQueeg.
Overweight Taft was a good president.
Doesn’t change my prediction. No success in raising money = no run in 2012.
He’s a charming, witty, God-fearing person with a great talk show and plays a mean bass.....stay where you are Mike.:)
