(09-25) 16:05 PDT SACRAMENTO -- Under fire from park supporters and the state's own attorneys, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said today that no state parks will be completely closed to help solve the state's budget woes.
Instead, the governor's new plan, which some say is little more than a shell game to save face, would slash $14.2 million from the park budget this year by closing campgrounds and facilities on weekdays, reducing seasonal and administrative staff and cutting back on things like bathroom cleaning.
The idea is to allow all 279 state parks to remain open this fiscal year. More options would be explored Jan. 10 when legislators consider next year's budget, according to a statement released this afternoon.

If they closed state parks, would they have guards to keep people out?
If they “closed” state parks, where would all the animals go? Would the trees have to stop growing?
Meanwhile they keep leasing expensive cars and paying teachers not to work.
lo to both of your posts.
That’s LOL to both your posts. ARgh!&(^!!!
$14.2 million will save the state from a $26 billion dollar deficit. Oh thank you Super(fluous)man.
Schwarzenegger continues on to be one the most clueless underachieving political disappointments in U.S. history.
OH NO!!! Not bathroom closings. What will the bears do? Are the woods closed? We need a law.
I don’t know why they can’t just raise the fees at the parks.
It was always a stupid plan to close them.
How about work-release prisoners running the park maintenance and other services at the parks...modeled on Sheriff Arapaio.
Maybe they should tax the Mexican drug plantations that are growing in state parks.
why dont they cuts something besides bathroom cleaning. its like healthcare...they want to cut services but not pork
What a tough choice: money to illegals, money to our state parks. Money to illegals, money to our state parks.
Am I missing something here? Did it really take the governator this long to make a decision.
Kennedy-itis...no ability to compose even a simple thought.
Time for Operation Wetback Part 2.
Mostly US Forest Service land is the landlord of choice.... You would be shocked to see drip hose in the boonies. At that point, be real careful where you walk.
I don’t think they should charge fees at all. It’s public land. We all pay our taxes.
LOL
