Holdren: Sterilize Welfare Recipients

Obama science czar John Holdren stated in a college textbook that compulsory, government-mandated "green abortions" would be a constitutionally acceptable way to control population growth and prevent ecological disasters, including global warming, because a fetus was most likely not a "person" under the terms of the 14th Amendment.

Holdren further suggested government-mandated population control measures might be inflicted in the United States against welfare recipients, writing on page 840: "There has been considerable talk in some quarters at times of forcibly suppressing reproduction among welfare recipients (perhaps by requiring the use of contraceptives or even by involuntary sterilizations). This may sadly foreshadow what our society might do if the human predicament gets out of hand." (Parenthesis in original text.)

As previously reported, WND has obtained a copy of the 1970s college textbook "Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment" that Holdren co-authored with Malthusian population alarmist Paul R. Ehrlich and Ehrlich's wife, Ann. The authors argued involuntary birth-control measures, including forced sterilization, may be necessary and morally acceptable under extreme conditions, such as widespread famine brought about by "climate change."

Writing on page 839 of the textbook, the authors state: "The common law and drafters of the U.S. Constitution did not consider a fetus a human being. Feticide was not murder in common law because the fetus was not considered to be a human being, and for purposes of the Constitution a fetus is probably not a 'person' within the meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment. Thus under the constitution, abortion is apparently not unlawful, although infanticide obviously is."

When you look at all the people who are dependent on the government for their income, the public employees probably do more damage to society, in the long run, than the unemployed. How 'bout permanent sexual maiming for everyone who draws a paycheck from the public treasury: county, state, fed?

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on this one. On one level, I know it seems like the logical and simple solution to the problem as presented. But, putting such power into government hands puts us on yet another road with s most likely bad destination.

Never lose sight of the fact that every human life is a great blessing, regardless of the circumstances of birth.

As you can see from this public assistance facts website (scroll about 1/4 of the way down to "Table 6. State Time Limits, Exemptions, and Extensions") all the states have limits on the length of time one can draw welfare benefits. There are often exemptions for people who are disabled, or caring for a disabled person, but most frequently it's a 24 month continuous benefits limit, or 5 year lifetime limit.

For the unemployed.

For those actually employed by the government, unfortunately there's no limit at all. Even politicians with term limit, can move on to some other section of the public trough, and usually do.

My previous response was based on being rather taken aback by the malice of folks who want to force drugs, devices, or surgery on people to cripple their ability to reproduce --- people who have not even been convicted of any crime.

Despite what I said about public employment, it would certainly make more sense to have a work requirement (welfare recipients have to work at some sort of public project) rather than punitive reproductive mutilation.

I mean, sheesh. I'm aghast.

Exactly!

You had to keep that opinion to your inner-most circle of influence...but now that the ‘Population Czar’ is on board??

Let’s have at it.

I even suggested they offer them a cash lump sum payment to be sterilized. No muss...no fuss.

In another 50 years, there would be a more prosperous environment for everybody.

Since they have no respect for aborted babies, they cannot yell genocide or extermination.
Nobody gets hurt financially and life goes on.

Of course...you have to step back and look at what possible ramifications this could have for the citizen who NEVER took a dime in unemployment, welfare, or social security benefits.

Here’s a scenario. A major disaster in Heartland America...Red State America. Think Katrina squared.

That’s a lot of people receiving welfare that the same rule could apply.

What’s good for the goose....

I wish I would have seen your post before I just responded to somebody.

Yes...we have to realize unintended consequences.

My mind kept thinking in terms of the people who fall under cradle to grave welfare...who as a result fill our prisons and jails, and account for the vast majority of crime overall.

Unemployment and Social Security is not the same as 40 years, or 4 generations of welfare breeders. No worry about Social Security anyway, too old to breed.

I have always thought perhaps one child from a welfare mother, no more. Steralize her if she should get pregnant again, the option is up to her. Also, she MUST DISCLOSE who the father is when she signs up for welfare, this can and should be done NOW.

A major disaster in America, that still would not be a problem as most honest hard working industrios people will pull together and get out of that mess and we would need more of that kind of people, or those that DO.

Katrina Squared, well Katrina ONE is what we are talking about in the first place, welfare people, or those that DON't or WON't, for the most part, and since they can't think for themselves to start walking/running or drive out of that place with as much warning as they had, we don't need them to breed.
