Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has been quietly assembling the blueprint of a presidential campaign and will announce Thursday the support of a group of high-level political strategists and donors...
Pawlenty, under the radar of D.C.s political community, has locked up some of the key operatives who engineered then-President George W. Bushs reelection campaign a significant feat for a little-known Midwestern politician. The moves underscore, and will lend credence to, the emerging belief among many establishment Republicans that Pawlenty is becoming the sole viable alternative to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a potential Republican primary rival. The Minnesota governor has even gone so far as to contact some of Romneys former supporters. Pawlenty, who previously has had little political infrastructure, is now being advised by a trio of GOP consultants with presidential experience: Terry Nelson, Sara Taylor and Phil Musser.
The second-term Minnesota governor, who is not seeking reelection next year, is focused on twin political goals, his advisers say: helping elect two Republican governors this fall from his perch as Republican Governors Association vice chairman and using his PAC to aid like-minded candidates running in next years midterm elections.
But Pawlenty is doing far more than that to establish his presence in the minds of Republican voters. He is also traveling the country at a fevered clip, appearing at scores of GOP and conservative events to speak to the party faithful, and becoming a frequent national TV presence, especially on cable television, where hes able to offer sharp critiques of President Barack Obamas latest moves.
And behind the scenes, hes engaged in a far more subtle campaign against another possible presidential rival. Pawlenty has been phoning aides and advisers to Romneys 2008 campaign, ostensibly to introduce himself and solicit their advice.

I would vote for him in the GE and may even give a dollar or two. In an election cycle like 2000, he might have won. But, MN Nice is no match for Chicago Thug.
Country Club Republican - sorry to say. We do not yet have any Conservative running or planning to run (yet) to save America...
... who bears part of the responsibility for 'Senator' Al Franken.
NOT ..... GONNA .......HAPPEN
Too many of us took it up the keester voting for McLame.
IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN !
Well...I don’t think of Democrats as a party except maybe one of Chicago’s offshoots. I guess their reaches extend far into many states...heh. Corruption is a major part of the Democrats and with the help of ACORN, they are become national.
The RNC does not put out anyone, there are primaries and people vote for a candidate.
“Does anybody know anything about this guy? I have no clue where he stands on the issues.”
Clue #1 that he’s a spineless RINO reach across the aisle type.
If you’re not out on the floor, on the air or on the streets standing up and in opposition to this Marxist administration out on a regular basis then you’re part of the problem
I have had plenty of the Pawlenty type. Put a no vacancy sign out on the Republican candidate list when he inquires about an opening.
Pawlenty is pro-amnesty and a believer in manmade global warming. Using your logic, if Giuliani can get elected in NYC, he can get elected throughout America.
yep..When I go into a Baskin-Robbins, I never order vanilla...next candidate please
Movers and shakers who encourage Pawlenty only do so because Sarah Palin scares the bejeebers out of them. She can motivate people.
If a candidate has a real shot at getting elected from the conservative side, I'm not sure if I would wish it on my worst enemy. On the other hand, I hope Sarah Palin is serious if she chooses to run.
If he would take the job, I think Pawlenty might make a good VP candidate.
If Pawlenty can get elected in Minnesota, I think he can get elected throughout America.Except that Pawlenty has never won a majority vote in Minnesota. Without the Independence Party candidate messing with the vote, Pawlenty might never have been elected at all.
Pawlenty is quite a bit more conservative than Giuliani, and also has a spotless personal life.
Pawlenty has a likability that will persuade independents and moderates to vote for him.
Sarah Palin gains enthusiasm only among the most conservative, people who would be voting Republican anyway. Palin might make a good VP pick if she does well in the Presidential primaries but can’t defeat Pawlenty.
He'd never beat her in a Primary of Republican voters . Its only as a default candidate that he would win, and we already tried that with McCain. This time will be different; things are much more stark right now. We have some rolling back to do, to say the least.
That's the kind of reasoning that got us McCain. I met Pawlenty at a receptiion he sponsored at CPAC. I was singularly unimpressed. The GOP should reject his candidacy if they want to win.
Pawlenty is a global warming cultist. Therefore he has proven himself incapable of rational thought and should be nowhere near the White House.
Lindsay Graham could also get elected in Minnesota. But not with my vote.
