Twenty first rifles leave for Afghanistan
01.10.2009 08:05
The sixth rotation of Polish forces in Afghanistan has begun with the departure of the 21st Podhale Rifles Brigade.
The brigade left the south-eastern town of Rzeszow for its mission in Afghanistan, Tuesday afternoon. At an official departure ceremony, representatives from Polands Ministry of Defence and army officers were in attendance.
The brigade are taking part in the sixth rotation of Polish forces in Afghanistan, and numbers 1200 soldiers, who will come back to Poland in six months time.
The highlander soldiers have been in training since November last year for Polands continuing effort in the troubled region.
Colonel Zurawski, second-in-command of the Brigade, has said that many of the soldiers are veterans of operations in Iraq and Kosovo.
The main aim of the highlanders mission in Afghanistan is to protect communication routes and to help prepare Afghan forces to take control over the safety of their country.

Poles are better allies then the West deserves.
Got that right.
Especially while we’re “ruled” by the Dear Leader.
Unfortunately, I may have to agree.
That dress uniform with the ropes and the pith helmet... that rocks! Great looking uniform.
I agree. If I were young, I would be tempted to emigrate to Poland.
BTW, Polish Highlanders? Is that right?
Hmmm... I wonder what the immigration rules are for Poland... what’re their taxes like?

If I were young and single I would be too. lots of Polish women are hot.

It is good to see that they are invoking God and their faith in him.
Ah. I see. So that jacket is worn typically as a cape?
Who saved Europe from Islam in 1683 AD at the Battle of Vienna? Poland who reinforced the Germans adnd Austrians. If Poland had not come to Vienna it would have been all over. the Muslims remember and hate the Poles. The Poles and Eastern Europe may save Western Europe some day but it better be sooner than later.
The Poles have always been at the front. The helped defeat the Turks at Vienna in 1683.
Ironically carrying AKs?
Back when the wall was falling in Eastern Europe - Poland’s leader General Jarazelski had a moment where he thought he might be able to hold back the tide. He supposedly thought about it for about a moment and knew it was a waste of time.
He knew the Polish Army would never go against the wishes of the Polish people or fire on them. I hope we can say the same when the time comes which may be soon.
We went from 5% unemployment with Bush to where the country may break apart in less than 9 months.
What do you think, for example, the Galil is? Lots of AK more or less exact clones around.
Turning back the Muslims from Europe on September 11, 1683
Dear Poland,
I’m sorry for barak Obama. Give us some time to get back into power and we’ll make it up to you.
Sincerely,
American conservatives
[...]To the right it is a portrait of the outstanding Polish pianist, composer and statesman, Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860 - 1941), who became Poland's first Prime Minister when the country regained its independence in 1919 after 125years of being partitioned by the surrounding powers. Paderewski was a great friend of the American President, Woodrow Wilson, and was instrumental in convincing the President to insist on a free Polish state as one of the famous Fourteen Points that formed the basis of the Treaty of Versailles at the end of World War I.
[...then upstairs...]
[...]The Steinway grand piano standing in the room is frequently used by guest performers at concerts organized by the Embassy. The instrument not only evokes memories of music played on it by outstanding musicians over the years, but is also a symbol of Polish patriotism. It was given to the Embassy during World War II by Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Paderewski played it during his last American tour, when he fell ill and had to cancel his concerts. He died soon after in 1941 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, with a request that he be moved to Poland when his homeland regaines its independence. His request was finally granted in 1992, when his remains were transferred for a hero's burial at Powazki Cemetery in Warsaw. Above the piano hangs a portrait of the maestro. [...]
Very cool.
they’re shown with a mixture of AK47s and AK74s. I prefer the AK74 over the AK47, the 5.45 x 39 cartridge has better ballistics.
Anyway, I believe these rifles are for the ceremonial use only. I am pretty sure that the soldiers going to Afghanistan get the Beryl rifles (5.56x45).
Got that right. During WWII enough Poles went west that they formed one of the largest of the Allied armies and served bravely everywhere, with the RAF and then with us in Italy and Normandy. Then they got screwed at Yalta and elsewhere. If we had had had gut we should have sent Patton’s army all the way into Poland . to grab a piece of that country for the our Polish allies.
It’s a little known fact that during WWII the Patton’s army liberated parts of Czechoslovakia (another Ally), and then was shamefully withdrawn by the politicians to appease the Soviets.
Well, we know that Alger Hiss was at Roosevelt’s elbow at Yalta.
We can’t have this! They’re not DIVERSE and they went to CHURCH! No, no, no!
We better be concerned who is at the Dear Leader’s elbow now. The missile defense project is already gone. What next?
Yes - as far as Polish highlanders are concerned
Exactly, as you can see on the picture I posted in the post #8
Not a Hispanic, Asian or African among them. What sacrilege!!!
Open the borders, I say! Open the borders!!!
How dare they maintain their identity, culture, language, customs and religion???
Awesome pictures.
God have mercy on talibans :)
BTTT and Godspeed.
Actually - they’re the guys, who have been best trained for the kind of mission like Afghanistan.
Just like the Italian Alpini troops, or 10th US Mountain Division.
Do they use Beryl in GROM at all?
I thought they use American M4s
I’m wrong. They used to use M4.
Today (since 2008) they use HK416s.
No argument from me. God bless them always.
lizol,
I plan to go on vacation to Europe someday.
Wife’s family came from Piemont, Italy so I’m forced there but I will go to Eastern Europe with a B.M.W. motorcycle for a month or two,
I bet I have a better time than if I went to France.
My Sister and Brother-in-Law have vacationed in Europe many times but last year was the first time they visited Poland and Hungary.
I was just talking to her and she said the Polish people were the friendliest and most helpful in Europe. She said if they were looking at a map trying to figure where to go in a City, people would come over and help them.
She also said Hungary is the most beautiful country but they at first didn’t like the people. After a week or so, she changed her mind. She said the Hungarians sort of grow on you.

To realize their strong commitment to Christian values, it's enough to say you won't find not a single brothel in the region. A few years ago, a man from the North came to Zakopane and tried to build "a night house of fun" there. When the highlanders found out about it, it almost ended up with massive street protests. The man was forced to flee and totally abandon his ideas of "implanting Sodomy into John Paul II's beloved land", as one of the Highlanders said on TV.

About 70-feet high cross on Gievont Peak, The Tatra Mountains, built by highlanders more than 100 years ago.
As to Polish Highlander girls, they're exceptionally beautiful!

Sure you will :-)
Especially if you go to Podhale and Tatra mountains region. Both because it’s really beautiful, and because Polish highlanders are crazy about Americans.
It’s because everyone there either has been in America himself, or has a member of family who lives there.
Significant percentage of Polish emigrants to US are highlanders.
Here you have a thread dedicated to Tatra mountains.

Cool pics!
Here in Florida folks usually send visiting N.Y.ers the wrong way.

And real NYers usually go out of their way to help out visitors. Take a guess who has more class...
