Hopes for an effective law that would protect the public’s access to essential news from inside government have been dealt a severe setback by the Obama administration.

As a senator, President Obama co-sponsored a robust proposal to protect journalists and their sources who rely on confidentiality to reveal abuses, scandals and other inner workings of government agencies. But, White House officials are now proposing deep revisions to a Senate Judiciary Committee bill that weaken protections against forcing reporters to reveal their sources.

At the heart of the disagreement is the balance between national security and the public’s right to know.

I just reread my COTUS and couldn't find a single reference to a "right to know." This is an invented right. I think that proper rights can be used for journalistic investigations but don't invent "rights" where none exist.

This is B.S. The media wants to protect thier right to Quote made up people. They don’t think even a judge should be able to force them to reveal their anonymous sources when crimes have been commited. We should trust journalistic ethics above all else. I don’t. They think they should be able to scream fire in a crowded theater and freedom of the press should rein supreme.

If the Democrats were transparent, Obama and the Congress would end up in prison.
