Four local young men are under arrest in connection with the violent stabbing death of a Mont Vernon mother and the vicious attack on her daughter.
Steven Spader, 18, Christopher Gribble, 19, both of Brookline, William Marks, 18 and Quinn Glover, 17, both of Amherst, will be arraigned late this morning in Milford District Court, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office.
Spader and Gribble are charged with first degree murder in the death of Kimberly Cates, 42, and attempted murder in the attack on her 11-year-old daughter. Marks and Glover are charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and armed robbery.
Cates' body was found Oct. 4 inside her 4 Trow Road home. Her 11-year-old daughter was alive but severely injured when police arrived at the family's ranch-style home, one of four houses on a dirt road.
"She had a number of very serious injuries that required extensive surgery," Senior Assistant Attorney General N. William Delker said. He wouldnt disclose the nature of the girls injuries, but said she was in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Children's Hospital in Boston.
Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Jennifer Duval performed an autopsy Monday on the body of Kimberly Cates which determined the registered nurse, who worked part-time at area hospitals, died from multiple sharp injuries to the head, torso, left arm and left leg. Her death was ruled a homicide.
On Monday, Delker said police dont know the motive for the crime the first known murder in Mont Vernon in at least two generations.
But he said police made progress yesterday tracking down potential leads and questioning several individuals.
"We are in the process of talking to a number of people," Delker said. He would not say if those being questioned are witnesses or suspects.

New Hampshire is so beautiful. So sad that such a horrendous crime could happen in such an idyllic place. Prayers for the family.
Drugs. Either they thought she had some or she did. No, I'm not a detective, but it will turn out to be drugs.
Give them each a pre-crucifixion scourging followed by a salt water bath.
There is a picture of one of the perps and knife here.

White suspects, looks like this story could go national. If the victim happened to be a minority, it'll go international.

No luck, the vic was also white.
Probably Greta or Nancy Grace will have it on. Mont Vernon is a very small town, too. The kind of place you’d want to move to escape violent crime.
Meth.
The godless generation. What happens if kids are raised without morality? Gee, I dunno...
Here's Gribble's pic...he won't have that knife in prison, but the older guy will have him.
As someone said, this sounds like drugs will be involved. Can’t imagine why three guys in their late teens would harm a mother and her eleven year-old daughter unless it was driven by drugs, or maybe a burglary gone wrong, or it was some family conflict (apparently not in this case).
The first murder in TWO generations??!! Apparently New Hampshire has far fewer Amish than Chicago or Detroit.
Why would a registered nurse have drugs? They aren’t pharmacists.
update from one of the suspect’s fathers: http://www.unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=Suspect%27s+father%3a+%27It%27s+just+been+a+nightmare%27&articleId=6e459dab-834b-47ff-848f-75c6dec16512
Druggies generally aren't bright enough to figure that out.
Two towns over from mine. This kind of thing almost never happens around here. It’s just an awful story - I cannot even imagine what evil impulse overtook these boys, but those responsible need to pay. Unlike our neighboring states, NH is tough on such criminals and we do have the death penalty.
Pathological. Hope he gets locked up for a long stretch - in the interest of the innocent people of New Hampshire.
*sigh* I know what they're trying to say, but, seriously, who edits this?
