Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois today exhorted his supporters to get extremely aggressive in their communities to persuade their neighbors to vote for Obama in November.Speaking to a crowd in Elko, Nevada, Obama was quoted by the AP as urging the people to be his 'ambassadors':"I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. Now we know where Obama’s mean, nasty, abusive followers get their marching orders. At a Nevada rally Wednesday, Obama said this to about 14,000 people: “I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” Nice. So much for the politics of hope and unity. So much for teaching our youth how to be good citizens and neighbors. So much for teaching tolerance, respect, and bi-partisanship....

DREAMS FROM MY FATHER, LAME EXCUSES FROM MY GRANDFATHERApril 9, 2008 Since a Chinese graduate student at Columbia University, Minghui Yu, was killed last Friday when black youths violently set upon him, sending him running into traffic to escape, I think B. As of Wednesday, police had no motive for the attack, and witnesses said they heard no demand for money or anything else. The Associated Press reports that the assailant simply said to his friend, "Watch what I do to this guy" before punching Yu....

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Determined to challenge President Bush, Senate Democrats are drafting legislation to limit the mission of U.S. troops in Iraq, effectively revoking the broad authority Congress granted in 2002, officials said Thursday. While these officials said the precise wording of the measure remains unsettled, one draft would restrict American troops in Iraq to combatting al-Qaida, training Iraqi army and police forces, maintaining Iraq's territorial integrity and otherwise proceeding with the withdrawal of combat forces. The officials, Democratic aides and others familiar with private discussions, spoke only on condition of anonymity, saying rank-and- file senators had not yet been...

Last weekend, the University of Minnesota hosted a conference to celebrate the achievements of several returning alumni. High officials gathered to thank and applaud the visitors. Did the honorees announce an exciting scientific breakthrough? No, they led a group that trashed university offices, stuffed student records in toilets and injured a fellow student. The heartbroken family of a fallen Bay State soldier was devastated yesterday to find his memorial defaced by callous anti-war vandals who scrawled “Oil” and “Christian Crusade” on a sign commemorating his sacrifice. “I was enraged,” said Lou Petithory, whose son Daniel, 32, was killed in Afghanistan Dec. 5, 2001. “My main concern is that my son’s memory was attacked.” It is a memory that Green Beret Sgt. Daniel Petithory’s parents have struggled to preserve amid the politics over the war on terror. They have stopped reading newspaper editorials and watching TV news shows; not because they disagree with debate,...

Bush reasserts importance of Guantanamo in meeting with German leader WASHINGTON - President Bush rejected a suggestion by Germany's new leader that the U.S. close its prison at Guantanamo Bay, saying after a first meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday that the facility is "a necessary part of protecting the American people." Guantanamo has become a symbol in Europe for what many people see as Bush administration excesses in hunting down and interrogating potential terrorists. At least one German is among about 500 foreign-born men held indefinitely at the prison camp on Cuba's eastern tip. "So long as the...

A new national poll by Harvard University's Institute of Politics (IOP), located at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, finds that students -- like other Americans -- rate President George W. Bush at the lowest point in his presidency, and believe in record numbers that the country is off on the wrong track. With their mood souring, the poll also shows college students are less likely today to believe political engagement is an effective way to solve problems, and they are more skeptical of elected officials and the political process than they were just a year ago. Despite their...

A plan to photograph teenagers branded as troublemakers by security guards at a popular shopping center in Antioch is alarming civil libertarians who say the plan stomps all over the youths' civil rights. The proposal, endorsed by many patrons and businesses at Deer Valley Plaza on Lone Tree Way, would see guards with Peace Keepers Security snapping pictures of youths who repeatedly intimidate shoppers or cause mischief. Because many of the students likely to be singled out attend nearby Deer Valley High School, security could hand over the photos to school officials for them to identify, said school Principal Jo...
