WASHINGTON Former Republican House majority leader Tom DeLay says he has "no idea" whether Barack Obama is constitutionally eligible to serve as president because he refuses to show his birth certificate to the American people.
In answer to a question from Newsweek about statements he previously made with regard to Obama's eligibility, he stated: "What I said was, to answer a question from Chris Matthews, I said: 'Why wouldn't the president of the United States show the American people his birth certificate?' You have to show a birth certificate to play little league baseball. It's a question that should be answered. It's in the Constitution that you have to be a natural-born citizen of the United States to be president."
Asked whether be believed Obama was a citizen, DeLay responded: "I have no idea."
In August, in an appearance on Matthews' MSNBC show "Hardball," DeLay was asked if he is a "birther."

Ping.
Delay is no slouch
You aren’t alone, Tom. No one does.
I’d say if we aren’t absolutely sure someone isn’t qualified to be President of our country,
we should damn well find out.
Did they ask the other “Dancing with the Stars” contestants what they thought of the Obama eligibility issue?
The rest of us have a pretty good idea.
“FREE THE LONG FORM!”
Simple question with a simple answer. People need to start asking Christ Matthews if he’ll resign his job from MSNBC if Obama doesn’t provide a birth certificate in 30 days. If Chris is so sure about this issue, he should be willing to take a stand on it.
He has no idea whether Obama's a citizen? Not even a natural born citizen, but a mere U.S. citizen?
The fact that this is coming from a man who claims to have been born just 15 miles from the Mexican border, and who spent most of his childhood in South America, is deliciously ironic.
How is a Homo Illegal Alien Crackhead the president?
because most of the people who voted for him are similarly situated and what choice did htey have, Obama or McAmesty?
Why would they do that?
That’s the only reasonable answer, given all of Obama’s efforts to keep the information secret. Not the politically correct answer, but given what I have seen the most correct response.
Dancin’ - dancin’ - dance the night a way...dancin’...
Now that is the best question I’ve heard all year! Finally, someone asks the obvious! I would love to hear what teleprompter has to say in answer to that one!
Would love to see Sarkozy or Brown ask to see the BC, or McChrystal, for that matter.
The fact that this is coming from a man who claims to have been born just 15 miles from the Mexican border, and who spent most of his childhood in South America, is deliciously ironic.
*******
I don't understand your statement above, because if there was any question concerning DeLay's American citizenship and he was running for President of the United States, I would want to see his long form birth certificate and his college records before his name would be allowed on any primary ballot.
Not only that, but Delay can dance and Obama can’t.
