Sadly, the church has made some real mistakes in judgment over the years. This is another example of it.

The Catholic is based in forgiveness... remember 70 times 7. All you have to do is say you're sorry for your sins and the Church will forgive again and again.

BTW I'm a practicing Catholic and I still can't understand why they have the threat of Excommunication but seldom use it... even in the case of suborning abortion.

Kennedy, Pelosi, Durbin, Kerry and on and on... Including all the Catholics on the Supreme Court now and during Roe v Wade.

“I still can't understand why they have the threat of Excommunication but seldom use it”

And although this is a digression, as a former Catholic I will always remember my extreme humiliation when I went through a terrible divorce after TWENTY years of marriage and my sister-in-law and a PRIEST asked me if I was “going to get the marriage annulled”. This was so hurtful and so outrageously hypocritical that I was horrified. I am, happily, no longer Catholic but respect those who are. I do wish the Church would have the guts to really take a stand on things instead of having such wishy washy beliefs.
