Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Americans are a diverse, extraordinary, resilient, and passionate group of forgiving men and women. I wouldn't be standing beside them demanding full and equal treatment under the law and speaking out against the harm caused by religion-based bigotry at the National Equality March in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 11 if I thought they were not created in God's image the same as myself, same as my family, as we all arewe are all God's children.
And I know better than anyone, since six years ago I was one of those bigots. At that time it would have seemed abominable to even consider attending a "gay-rights" event. To me, these would have been the people tearing apart the very seams of our culture and our country.
Today, it is a natural expression of who I am. Some might call that a miracle.
So what it is that would bring someone from a place where he once declared himself a "Jesse Helms Republican," a man who condemned homosexuality as a threat to children and society, told his own son that being gay is a ticket to hell, to travel from Hickory, N.C., to the West Lawn of the Capitol building on Oct. 11, 2009? How can one travel from the seemingly impossible road of bigotry to one of acceptance and love for our LGBT brothers and sisters? The answer is one that I hope religious leaders such as Pat Robertson and James Dobson (and most importantly,

No barf alert??
The relevant part of this is that his son is gay. Having produced an abomination he has to come up with an excuse for it. Just a homo apologist.
Woe to those who call good evil, and evil good....
There will be those that will say ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t I embrace gays with total acceptance of their life style, after all they were MADE IN YOUR IMAGE,’ and what will be the Lord’s reply? Christ died for their sin to deliver them from it not give them (and me) a free pass for sin.
Others would say you've come out of the closet.
Our first reaction to liberal crap like this needs to be an investigation of the term “gay rights.”
Gay people in this country have EXACTLY the same constitutional rights as straight people. As far as I have been able to determine, the “right” that gay people are now seeking is licencse to same sex marriage.
Moving on to the Christian view of gay people, Jesus taught us to love them. They are indeed made in His own image. That being said, buttsex is still a sin, between man and God. No amount of protesting will change that. But Christianity has no problem whatsoever with mentally ill individuals who believe they are sexually attracted to members of their own gender.
Those must be some wild and crazy Pentecostals...
It’s true that many people who experience same-sex attraction are wonderful people.
But it remains that acting on such temptation is sinful.
Not sure why he included the dig on James Dobson. Dobson’s never said anything hateful against those who experience SSA.
They’re using creative writing a lot lately, I notice. When the truth isn’t on their side, they make it up to suit the moment.
They’re liars like Satan, their father.
I sum it up with “Love the sinner and hate the sin”.
It's not a mental illness. It's moral depravity.God is certainly willing to forgive the former....but not the latter.Unless,of course, the depraved one repudiates his/her sins.
A Step in Faith The Wrong Driection (Evangelical Explains Journey From Hate-Filled Homophobe Bible-believing Christian To Gay-Rights Activist Deluded Fool)
There, fixed it.
So anyone who lives by the Word of God, and does not condone homosexuality, is a “bigot”, “hater”, whatever word of the day, etc.?
Every single preacher I have ever heard speak on the subject tells us to hate the sin but love the sinner, and to gently try to convince them of what God says about their lifestyle. These preachers are adamant that we are not to be violent, but KINDLY tell them that it is against God and His ways.
These libs are truly making up the fact that evangelicals are haters and bigots when it comes to this subject. I guess that plays into them wanting to demonize anyone with whom they disagree.
